Member‘s Meeting for preparing the North Africa Sub-Regional Programme for 2008-2012

Introduction

In the framework of the IUCN Mediterranean programme, the Mediterranean members met in Malagaon the3rd and 4thof September 2007 to discuss and identify the thematic areas of the new programme.

North Africanmembers have highlighted the main challenges relevant to the region in terms of socio- economic development issues and natural resources governance.

The IUCN Med team has taken those specific recommendations and has elaborated a proposal of a specific programme for the North Africa region for 2008-20012.

The main goal of this Tunis meeting is to propose a series of major activities for the 2008-2012 programme according to the IUCN- Med proposal as well as define the specific activities for 2008-2009.

Specific objectives of the member’s meeting

Members will formulate activities and identify the most relevant actors at national and regional levels for setting up activities in the framework of the thematic areas of the programme.

This process will be implemented in a participatorymanner with all members and other concerned stakeholders.

The specific objectives of the meeting are:

1-Give to members key concepts and knowledge of the new programme

2-Identify activities of the programme at the national level and as well as local actors

3-Discuss and identify the needs in terms of relevant training for the implementation of the programme

4-Identify regional activities among the 5 countries in North Africa
