Community Action Program for Children (CAPC) Advisory Committee

The Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) in BC is looking for individuals willing to serve on the Community Action Program for Children (CAPC) Advisory Committee. CAPC provides funding to community-based groups to develop and deliver comprehensive, culturally appropriate, prevention and early intervention programs to promote the health and social development of children (0-6 yrs) and their families facing conditions of risk.

Purpose:

The purpose of the CAPC Advisory Committee is to make recommendations on CAPC-specific funding and policy, including program implementation and evaluation, to the Public Health Agency of Canada in BC.

PHACBC is seeking individuals who:

  • Will participate in discussions to address CAPC issues and develop strategies;
  • Will provide inputto the direction of and priority setting for CAPC;
  • Will make recommendations to PHAC-BC around early child development practices;
  • Will ensure allocation of resources are consistent with CAPC principles;
  • Will encourage the development of partnerships and linkages around the province;
  • Are willing to participate in a face-to-face meeting once per year in Vancouverandadditional meetings via conference calls as needed

Term:

Members of the CAPC Advisory Committee commit to a three year term. It may be possible for individuals to commit to one year with an option to renew their membership for another two years.

Representation:

The Advisory Committee will have 14-16 members. Cultural, gender, and geographic diversity will be considered in the selection of all Advisory Committee members. We are currently seeking representation from the following:

  • CAPC project representative, Fraserregion*
  • CAPC project representative, Interior region*
  • CAPC participant representative (2)
  • Additional members will be selected for their organizational affiliation or expertise which may include:
  • Early Childhood Development Specialist
  • Provincial Public Health Nursing Leader
  • Regional Health Authority representative

* An additional letter of support from your host agency is also required. This letter states that the agency will allow you to participate without any penalties (e.g. loss of pay, etc).

How to apply:

Please submit, via fax or email, a letter expressing your interest to be considered for the CAPC Advisory Committee by September 20th, 2010. The letter must include: reasons for your interest; expertise you can bring to the committee; and your intent to offer a commitment for three years orawillingness to commit for one year with an option to renew membership for an additional two years.

Selection Process: A committee oftwo PHAC representatives and at least oneexisting Advisory Committee member external to PHAC will review the letters of interest and submit recommendations to PHACBC.
