HERE ARE
THE SUCCESSFUL PEOPLE
Objectives: • To allow the students an opportunity to focus on positive qualities in themselves
To develop a plan of action to build successful qualities into their lives
Time Required.
Procedure: / Idea Presentation - 5 minutes
Self-evaluation - 15 to 20 minutes
1. Begin this activity by choosing one of the methods listed on your segment tab to relate the "HERE ARE THE
SUCCESSFUL PEOPLE" idea to your students.
2. Move the class into the self-evaluation by reading the instructions aloud. Allow the students eight minutes to
complete this portion. When they have been working for six minutes, announce:
"You have two minutes to finish…Two Minutes."
...Two
3. To continue the activity, instruct the students to total their score. Be certain to emphasize that a low score is not a
sign of an unsuccessful person, but rather an opportunity to identify areas for improvement.
4. After each student has totaled his/her score, read the "Your Challenge" directions aloud. Allow the students five to
ten minutes (depending on your time limitations) to complete this part of the activity. This is the plan of action
portion, so allow as much time as possible.
5. Conclude this activity by reading or paraphrasing the following:
"Today you have evaluated yourself on some of the qualities of successful people. You need to
celebrate those qualities you ranked highly because you have worked hard to develop them. Also, you
have developed a plan of action to improve those qualities you ranked lower. Use these action steps to
increase the success qualities in your life."

HERE ARE THE SUCCESSFUL PEOPLE

Truly successful people come from every walk of life. They may have been bom into wealth or poverty, sickness or health, Communism or Democracy, hatred or love. Regardless of where they started, they utilized what they had. They refused to sit back and believe the world owed them something. Successful people know the importance of being kind to others, giving the "extra effort," making wise decisions, and recognizing what they have instead of dwelling on what they don't have.

Truly successful people represent every race, creed and color. They have educational backgrounds that vary from no education to Ph.D. They are people who have succeeded sometimes because of, and many times in spite of, almost unbelievable handicaps. Their stories are the most beautiful stories we can encounter. Without exception, these people believe that, "People are designed for accomplishment, engineered for success and endowed with the seeds of greatness." When you adopt this belief, you will discover that there will be no need to blame anyone for any problem. In short, you will be on your way because you will have discovered that you can always find a capable helping hand... at the end of your own sleeve. You need to accept the fact that from this moment on, your situation and future is in capable hands - yours!
