Great Canadian Theatre Company is currently looking to fill the position of Production Manager.

Great Canadian Theatre Company has successfully produced professional contemporary English-language theatre in Ottawa since 1975. Our mandate to produce theatre that examines “Canadian life and our place in the world” provides a different perspective and makes us unique in our city. With over 85 world premieres, GCTC has made a strong commitment to advancing Canadian theatre and the creation of Canadian plays. The company has a long history of creating theatre that is compassionate, thought provoking and immediately relevant. Our audience craves theatre that is emotionally charged, intellectually engaging and theatrically exciting. We produce theatre that does not prescribe a point of view, but rather encourages audience members to engage in debate and discussion.

GCTC is located in Ottawa and includes a 262 seat, modern Mainstage theatre and a black box, flexible studio space. We own and operate the Irving Greenberg Theatre Centre and take our role of mentoring, supporting and sharing our resources with the artistic community seriously. In fact, this is an integral part of our identity as an arts organization.

The Production Manager works collaboratively with the Managing and Artistic Directors.

Season Planning

As a key collaborator the Production Manger is deeply engaged in season planning and implementation with a focus on costing scripts, presenting company technical specifications and partnership proposals; speaking to the overall feasibility of each script, presentation and partnership within the mandate, vision, and available resources, and; preparation of the Production Schedule.

Financial

The Production Manager is responsible for the implementation and documentation of annual production budgets, including all productions, production overhead, maintenance, long term maintenance, and production-related capital acquisitions.

The Production Manager administers the production budget by:

· Authorizing all production expenses;

· Monitoring production accounts and labour costs generated by the Assistant Production Manager (APM) and the Accounting Department;

· Monitoring and authorizing all production overhead expenses;

· Monitoring and authorizing approved production related capital purchases and projects;

· Advising and assisting the accounting department with any changes to the accounting procedures related to areas of production and production related rentals/events;

· Approving production related expenditures as they related to internal department usage of production personnel;

· Coordinating rentals and/or events as necessary;

· Assisting and coordinating production capital and infrastructure planning.


Staffing

The production Manager is directly responsible for a five person production team that includes a Technical Director, Assistant Technical Director for the Mainspace, Assistant Technical Director for the Studio space, Head of Properties, and Head of Wardrobe. The Production Department also includes an Assistant Production Manager. The Production Manager leads this professional and devoted team by:

· Managing and overseeing regular employee production staff;

· Taking the lead on the contracting and oversight of stage managers, assistant stage managers, and apprentice stage managers;

· Being responsible for the contracting and management of GCTC creative teams including Set & Costume Designers, Lighting Designers, Projection Designers, Sound Designers, Fight Directors, Choreographers;

· Ensuring that GCTC and its staff operate in a safe and responsible manner in conjunction with the GCTC Safety Committee;

· Ensuring that all Federal and Provincial labour regulations are respected;

· Ensuring that all Union agreements are respected;

· Approving all production related time sheets;

· Approving and authorizing overtime as required;

· Participating in the process of annual performance reviews;


· Negotiating and maintaining the IATSE/GCTC Collective Agreement in conjunction with the Managing Director;

· Establishing and maintaining Policies and Procedures as related to all areas of Production.

Direct Production

As the head of GCTC’s Production Department, the Managing Director is responsible for:

· Creating and maintenance of the Production Schedule ensuring adherence to various collective agreements;

· Overseeing the operation of and staffing for all facility rentals;

· Allocating resources for individual productions, while working collaboratively with other departments integrating the needs of and coordinating all facility spaces

· Working closely with the Artistic Director and the Managing Director to find balance between artistic vision and available resources;

· Ensuring production requirements are met effectively, economically and on time;

· Ensuring effective communication between all members of the production team and departments;

· Provide advice and guidance as required to the Technical Director and all Production Department Heads;

· In conjunction with the Technical Director and individual Heads of Depts. ensuring that all production equipment is properly maintained and in safe operating condition;

· Chairing of Production Meetings;

· In conjunction with the Technical Director, Box Office Manager and FOH Supervisor ensuring the highest standards of Health and Safety and that GCTC is compliant with and adhering to Ministry of Labour regulations and guidelines;

· Supervising the Technical Director and all production personnel.
