The College of Agriculture’s Department of Animal Science and Biotechnology at TunghaiUniversity inTaiwan is seeking candidates for the position of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor. The expected start date for the position is August 1, 2014.
Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be responsible for the development of an independent research program in her/his area of scientific expertise of high relevance to animal breeding and production. The successful candidate will also be responsible for assuming a key role in the Department’s undergraduate teaching program which will include instruction of 2-4 undergraduate courses each year that are in direct support of the Department’s breeding and genetics curriculum. Participation in the departmental graduate program is also expected. The successful candidate will be expected to function effectively on multidisciplinary teams, develop collaborative relationships with faculty in the department and across the college. Service to the department, college and university are expected.
Qualifications: Minimum qualifications include an earned Ph.D. from an accredited institution in Animal Science, or closely related field. Candidates must have the qualifications, experience, and resolve to develop a research program in a core scientific discipline relevant to animal production. Emphasis may include but not limited to: population genetics, breeder management, or quantitative genetics. Candidates must demonstrate that they have a successful publication record and have secured/attempted to obtain extramural funding commensurate with their experience. Potential ability to successfully obtain extramural funding is essential. The successful candidate must have documented experience and/or evidence of the ability to function as an effective instructor at the undergraduate level. Candidates must also demonstrate the ability to work cooperatively with faculty, students and industry to develop collaborative research and teaching programs. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively interact with diverse audiences are required along with the demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in Mandarin, both verbally and in writing. The successful candidate must meet eligibility requirements for work in Taiwan at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the term of employment.
