Content / Agenda: (times will vary based on specific items on the agenda)

  • Unless otherwise specified the Agenda for each MREC meeting will be as follows:
  • Curriculum review
  • 1 week prior to the schedule MREC meeting 1-3 items of the current IM written curriculum will be emailed to all medical residents, MREC faculty, and the appropriate subspecialty faculty for comment and review
  • Residents will be responsible for contacting their class MREC representative with any suggested changes or modifications to the existing curriculum
  • Discussion will take place and suggested modification either implemented or a plan to follow up on these modifications created, assigned, and followed up on at the next MREC meeting
  • Suggestion box review
  • The internal medicine residency has implemented an anonymous suggestion / feedback box in the Morning Report conference room
  • As per resident request the anonymous feedback from this box will be reviewed publically during a morning report session / business meeting on at least a monthly basis
  • Any input from this “box” which involves resident educational change or innovation will be circulated by email to all residents, so they have a chance to contact their MREC representative with feedback
  • MREC will assign responsibility to follow up and consider / implement modification to the educational curriculum
  • MREC resident representative feedback
  • It is expected that all MREC class resident representatives will seek out feedback regarding resident education prior to each monthly meeting
  • This portion of the meeting will be devoted to items brought forward by the MREC resident representatives for open discussion
  • MREC faculty representative feedback
  • Opportunity for faculty to bring forward issues facing resident education and teaching / delivery of education
  • Open Discussion

Evaluative / outcomes measure:

  • At the annual program review the educational effectiveness of MREC will be reviewed and modifications to this committee suggested and brought forward on an as needed basis
  • Annual resident survey will be carefully reviewed to see if there is an improvement in resident perception of involvement in their own curriculum
  • MREC representatives (faculty and residents) will be asked for feedback regularly as to ways to maximize effectiveness of this important committee
