2016 BASEBALL SPORTS INFORMATION BULLETIN

The official baseball season for the CIF Los Angeles City Section is scheduled for the period of Monday, February 1, 2016to Saturday, May28, 2016. Teams qualifying for playoffs may continue to practice until eliminated.Practice on a holiday is not authorized without prior approval from the School Principal.Schedules can be obtained at on the baseball page or at Schedule changes and additions must be approved by the League Commissioner.
BASEBALL COACHES MEETING
A mandatory meeting for all baseball coaches will be held on Thursday, January 28, 2016, at 4:00 pm at Maywood Academy High School. Refer to the Section Gold Book regarding attendance at the coaches’ meeting and the penalty for failure to attend.
RULES
Allgames will be played under 2016 National Federation High School rules. All games are required to be played on fields that meet the NFHS standards and requirements. Consult the NFHS rule book or the Section Gold Book for additional rules relating to baseball. Rule books can be viewed on the Section website: cif-la.org. Click on the officials’ dropdown at the top of the home page, and then click on Rule Books.
RULE CHANGES
All coaches must be aware of Section rules (and changes) as they pertain to student eligibility, school responsibilities, and the sport of baseball. Please refer to Rules and Regulations(Section Gold Book).
PRACTICE
CIF Bylaw 506 allows for 18 hours per week of practice. No more than 4 hours per day is allowed for practice. Games will count for 3 hours toward the total practice time allowed. CIF does not allow practice, meetings, or any contact on Sundays. School site administration will determine if teams can practice on Saturday or Holidays.
SCHEDULES
Spring sport schedules are to be completed and posted on the CIF Home scheduler by the league commissioner by November 15, 2015. Non-league schedules are to be submitted to the league commissioner by October 30, 2015, league commissioners will complete the league schedule. All schedule timelines must have majority agreement of the league members. Changes and additions after the schedule is posted on CIF Home must be submitted by your athletic director and approved by the league commissioner (rain outs are the only exception). Changes / additions will only be approved for unforeseeable emergencies. All teams and all levels are permitted one inter-school scrimmage prior to the first scheduled contest.
STARTING TIMES
Contests must start at the scheduled game time listed on CIF Home and not earlier unless both Athletic Directors agree upon any change.
TOURNAMENTS
As per the LACS Board of Managers action (April, 2010), all sports are allowed a maximum of four tournaments per level. Schools must ensure that teams do not exceed the maximum number of 22 contests per level. Schools are allowed to reach the 22 game total by any combination of scheduling non-league, league and tournaments. Tournaments will count as two (2) games when they meet the restrictions as set in the rules and policies regarding tournaments in the 2015-16 Gold Book.
DROPPING A PROGRAM
Schools that drop a team after the official schedule is posted on CIF Home will be fined $200 and placed on probation the following year. A school that drops a program two consecutive years will be suspended from the sport indefinitely. Schools forfeiting games will be fined $100 each game for each level. If a school forfeits their first three games of the season, the team will be dropped unless there are extenuating circumstances.
GAME SUPERVISION
Supervision is required at all athletic events. School administrators may assign trained staff to supervision athletic contest. At off campus sites, both schools are required to provide supervision for the contest. Assigned supervision must meet with the game official prior to the start of the contest. If the Home supervision is not present the game will not start, if there is no supervision after 30 minutes, the game will be forfeited. If the visiting team does not provide supervision at an off campus site, the official will report this to the Section who will inform the administration at the school. Supervision must be someone other than a coach of the team.
REPORTING OF INCIDENCE
Incidents at contest such as fights or other disruptive acts on the field, stands or other areas in or nearby the school, before, during or after the contest, which would cause concern in the community, continued problems between the schools involved, or problems with the students at either school, must be reported to the League Commissioner and the Section office by telephone no later than 9:00 AM the following school day. An administrative report of the incident must be submitted to the Section Commissioner within five school days. (Bylaw 1318)
OFFICIALS
The officials will be assigned by the officials unit assigned to the region. Playoff and championship officials will be approved by the Section Office. Please submit officials’ evaluations via the Section website or on CIF Home to provide the Section with current information on officials’ performances to determine playoff and championship assignments. All official assignments will be posted on Arbiter website.

MaxPreps is the “Official Digital Media Partner and Statistician” of the CIF Los Angeles City Section. Our partnership with MaxPreps provides all member schools with a streamlined process to submit information for important CIFLACS initiatives. In order to accurately manage these important initiatives, the CIF LA City Section is directing all coaches to update their stats and scores on MaxPreps throughout the season.

The Seeding meeting is restricted to the Seeding Committee Members only.No coaches, media representatives, or public will be allowed admission except as identified by Section rules.
