UK med tech trade mission seeks to build links with China and Hong Kong
Nine British medical technology companies are travelling to Honk Kong and China as part of a trade mission in order to build on the UK’s existing strong links with the two countries and identify areas of collaboration.
The trade mission, taking place from 17-27 September, is being organised by the Association of British Healthcare Industries (ABHI) with the backing of UK Trade & Investment (UKT&I) - the Government’s body responsible for promoting exports and inward investment.
Amongst the healthcare innovations that will be focussed on as part of the mission are oxygen and suction products, surgical dressings, urinary flow monitors, anesthesia and respiratory products.
John Wilkinson, Director General of the ABHI, said:
“The UK healthcare industry is world renowned for supplying leading-edge medical technologies and equipment. There is considerable interest in British healthcare products in Hong Kong and China, which is why this trade mission has been arranged.
Theresa Ashford, International Business Coordinator at the ABHI, said:
“This trade mission is a great opportunity to form a strong working partnership and demonstrate how China and Hong Kong can benefit from the medical expertise British firms have to offer. We also hope to identify other areas of collaboration.”

- The Association of British Healthcare Industries (ABHI) is the lead trade association for the medical systems industry. This sector comprises not only manufacturers of medical devices, equipment and consumables, but also service companies, distributors, professional groups (such as architects and lawyers), and other suppliers to the medical community.

Frank Sammeroff is a manufacturer of Surgical Dressings and First Aid Kits. The company operates from Glasgow, Scotland and a factory in Shanghai, China. Sammeroff supplies both public and private sectors and holds contracts with purchasing organisations, defence procurement, local authorities and distributors. Products include those for professional use as well as private label products for major pharmacy, supermarket, and DIY chains.
ICAN Software Ltd
ICAN is involved with the development of custom software for manufacturing and marketing. Its ‘CONFIGURE’ program allows easy design and quotation for custom made products. The program’s design function is intuitive, guiding the user to the correct product specification. Once the design is complete the drawings and Bill Of Materials are generated from the same information. This system allows rapid manufacture of products after the initial sales call. The program operates using small files and allows file transfer via WWW. All systems operate with existing ISO, CE requirements.
Integrated Technologies Ltd
ITL have been in business for some 30 years in the design and manufacture of medical, diagnostic and analytical instruments for a wide range of corporate clients worldwide. It is a private limited company owned entirely by a Swiss family investment trust based in Geneva. The company has 60 dedicated staff at its factory and Headquarters site in Ashford in Kent.
Maltron International Ltd
Maltron is a leading manufacturer in the field of Impedance Technology. Maltron has launched Electrical Impedance Tomography imaging system, the first non-invasive technology for monitoring and diagnosing lung related diseases. Other ranges include portable products used in diverse clinical applications for assessment of body composition, fluid and nutrition status.
Meditech Systems Ltd
Meditech is a well-established British-based manufacturer, which has emerged as the alternative in electrosurgery accessories. Its comprehensive range covers all major makes of electro-surgery generators worldwide. Meditech has now introduced a full range of anesthesia and respiratory products, e.g. circuits, masks, nebulisers, tubing etc.
Oxylitre Ltd
Oxylitre Ltd was founded in 1961 and is a private limited company. Oxylitre has grown to be a major supplier of Oxygen and Suction Therapy, Entonox (pain relief) and piped medical gases to both healthcare and ambulance (EMS) markets around the world.
Oxylitre Medical Services Ltd
Oxylitre (Medical Services) Ltd was founded in 1987 and is a private limited company. Oxylitre Medical Services has grown to be a major service provider for medical Oxygen and Suction etc. products to both healthcare and ambulance (EMS) markets.
Peacocks Medical Group Ltd
Peacocks Medical Group consists of four companies who since 1903 have specialised in manufacturing and distributing medical hardware to the NHS. Peacocks Manufacturing Plant manufactures bespoke Orthotics which are supplied through consultants throughout
the UK. Peacocks Orthotic Division employs consultant Orthotists who visit patients in hospitals across the UK. Peacocks Surgical and Medical Equipment specialise in securing UK distribution agreements with worldwide manufacturers in order to supply large capital items to the NHS. Peacocks Retail Division supplies rehabilitation equipment through various supply chains for doctors’ instrumentation and equipment.
