Role Title:Development Officer / Responsible to: AWF ManagerDepartment:AWF / Responsible for: N/A
Purpose of Role:
- Working closely with the trustees and AWF Manager, to develop and implement a sustainable fundraising strategy for AWF, to support the delivery of the charity’s aims and objectives
Key Responsibilities:
- To develop and implement AWF’s fundraising plan
- To identify and pursue new fundraising opportunities from individuals, corporate partnerships, , charitable trusts and foundations
- To support the AWF Fundraising Subgroup
- To develop and administer AWF’s fundraising record systems including gift aid claims
- To produce AWF fundraising materials (including online) in line with the charity’s brand guidelines
- To raise awareness of AWF and the charity’s work
- To ensure all fundraising activities are carried out in line with the Charity Commission’s requirements and comply with relevant legislation
- To carry out any other duties commensurate with the role, as agreed with the AWF Manager
Scope of role
- The role holder will be responsible for the review of existing and planning the development of new fundraising activities from inception through to delivery.
- The role is self-administering with direction provided by the AWF Manager
People
- No line management responsibility
- Close working relationship with the AWF Manager and trustees
- Liaison with BVA staff and external suppliers and service providers
- Attendance at external events and AWF meetings
Initiative/innovation
- Evaluate current fundraising activity and suggest amendments and updates as necessary
- This position offers significant scope for the role holder to lead on the development and shape of AWF’s approach to fundraising.
Resources
- The role holder will plan and manage their work within budget parameters and targets agreed with the AWF Manager.
- Current fundraising and promotional opportunities are available through AWF events and website, Twitter and Facebook accounts
- Additional opportunities to promote the charity’s work are available through access to the resources of the British Veterinary Association (staff, website, publications and communication channels).
Influence/impact
- As the only fundraiser at the charity, the role holder will have the opportunity to influence the development of charity’s approach to fundraising.
- By increasing and diversifying fundraising income the role holder has the opportunity to play a significant role in safeguarding the charity’s activities and to help AWF meet its strategic objectives.
Knowledge, skills and expertise
Essential
- A proven track record of successful fundraising in the voluntary sector including the design and delivery of strategies to increase unrestricted income from legacies, trusts and foundations, corporate partnerships and individuals.
- Excellent communication skills including writing for offline and online audiences including social media
- Ability to build relationships with a range of people and organisations
- Excellent organisational skills and ability to prioritise own workload and to meet deadlines
- Excellent Microsoft Office skills
- Experience of working in a small charity
- Experience of using content management systems to update website content
- Member of the Institute of Fundraising
- Understanding of the animal welfare sector
