Trust Fundraising Officer– Job Description

Contract:Part time (22.5 – 30 hours per week)

Responsible to:Trust Fundraising Manager

Purpose of role:To support the Trusts Fundraising Manager to retain, acquire and develop income from UK and overseas charitable trusts and award-making bodies so that Excellent Development can deliver its range of programmes and activities

Salary Range:Salary £23,000 - £25,000 pro rata (dependent on level of skills and experience, includes a 5% pension contribution)

Fundraising Scope

  • British Isles: Charitable Trusts & Foundations (England & Wales, Isle of Man, Scotland, Republic of Ireland)
  • International Charitable Trusts & Foundations
  • National and International Awards (Organisations or initiatives)

Key Responsibilities

  • To deliver the small and medium trust fundraising activity and deliver the financial and operational plans. Small trusts are those that typically give up to £1,000 per year and medium, those that give up to £10,000 per year.
  • To support the Trusts Fundraising Manager in researching, identifying and applying for financial awards.

Responsibilities

Trusts & Foundations - Acquisition

  • To research and identify potential trusts/opportunities that may support Excellent Development.
  • To retain and increase donations income from new or lapsed small and medium trusts and foundations.
  • To carry out a programme of acquisition of new small and medium trusts through sending mass appeals as well as targeted applications to potential donors.

Trusts & Foundations - Stewardship.

  • To retain and grow existing small and medium trust and foundation income.
  • To manage relationships with small and medium trusts, including
  • preparing and submitting timely quality reapplications to current donors
  • implementing effective communications throughout the year
  • creating and sending timely reports to donors.
  • To maximise income growth and retention rates by developing mutually beneficial relationships with donors.

Financial Awards.

To assist the Trusts Fundraising Manager in the research and drafting of applications to financial award making bodies.

Administration.

  • Ensure accurate computerised records of all business with existing and potential trust donors are maintained and kept up-to-date on a combination of excel, databases and CRM database, including tracking response and success rates.
  • To support the Trusts Fundraising Manager in designing and maintaining up-to-date fundraising materials and resources, including leaflets, project budgets and background documents.
  • To undertake any other reasonable activity in line with the responsibilities of the post and requested by the Trusts Fundraising Manager and/or other senior Excellent Development staff.

Person Specification – Trusts Fundraising Officer

This role will support the Trusts Fundraising Manger. The role requires the post holder to be enthusiastic and proactive with at least two years experience in a busy organisation. It requires excellent attention to detail, demonstrative ability to manage multiple tasks at the same time, and the ability to work well under your own initiative. Experience of charity fundraising is helpful though not essential; primarily we are looking for someone who has the skills and knowledge to effectively perform the role.
Technical skills, knowledge and experience / Essential
  • Two years experience working in a busy organisation.
  • Proven ability to plan workload and manage multiple tasks at the same time
  • Experience of writing communication materials such as (but not limited to) fundraising applications and reports or proposals.
  • Strong IT skills including knowledge of Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Fluent in English (verbal and written).
  • Right to live and work in the UK.
Desirable
  • Charity, commercial or public sector experience in; fundraising, sales or account management.
  • Experience of using customer relationship management databases.
  • Knowledge and understanding of international development, in particular community development, water and farming.
  • Experience of visiting/living and/or working in developing countries, especially Africa.
