one word AWESOME!!!!
Deepings swimmingClub was represented at the British Summer Championship by Alex Wray, Isabel Spinley andBailie Harrison, these three swimmers did an awesome job! They swam 8 event between them, made 5 Finals, brought home Two medals, set 12 County Long Course Records, 9 Club Records, 11 Long Course PBs &9 Converted PBs. The results reflect the quality of these swimmers particularly when you think about the level of competition they were in!
Alex Wray& Isabel Spinley were on fire, breaking Club and County Long Course records in both the heats and then again in finals.
Alex Wray / 50m Breaststroke, 50m &100m Butterfly, 50m FreestyleAlex Wray / Equaled his 100m Freestyle Record
Isabel Spinley / 50m, 100m & 200m Butterfly
Isabel swam really well in the 200m butterfly heats (2.19.99) and went over 2 seconds faster in the final but just missing the bronze medal. Her efforts were rewarded with a new club and county long course record. Although she finished 13th in the 50m butterfly, she still set a new county long course record. I think Isabel saved her best event till last; she got off to a cracker of a start in 100m Butterfly finishing in 2nd place giving her an excellent chance of a medal. She powered off the blocks quite nicely (watching on the live stream) just a little behind the front runner but she tried pushed the last 25m pretty hard, she finished in a time of1:02.32life time best, which was an improvement on her morning swim sadly she just missed the bronze medal again, but she gave it her all, that’s all you can ask. This was an excellent set of results - Congratulations!
Alex excelled with three solid performances in the heats of the 50m Breaststroke,50m Freestyle and 100m Freestyle where he made all three finals. He went on to show his true colours pacing all three races very well but his success came in the 50m Freestyle (one of his favorite events) where he managed to secure a silver medal (23.14) , which was a new club and county record too. His second best swim the 50m Breaststroke wherehe touched the wall in 3rd place to bring home a bronzein a time of 29.18 which was also another club and county record. He finished 3rd in the heats of the 100m Freestyle despite equaling his club record it wasn’t quite good enough for a medal on this occasion, as he was touched into fourth place. He finished the championships with a swim in the 50m Butterfly securing himself another club andcounty records but wasn’t quite fast enough to make the final.Alex also swam the 200m Freestyle at the British Summer Championships. He finished 16th in a time of 1:55.53 although not a club record but it was a New Long Course County Record in the 18 years category - Congratulations!A cracking set of results!
Bailie Harrison swam the 100m Butterfly in her true gutsy style to touch the wall in a time of 1:04.48, unfortunately on this occasion it wasn’t fast enough to make the final.
This will act as a great confidence boast for these guys!
We have had an outstanding summer and it goes without saying that we congratulate everyone who competed at Club Champs, The Midlands and represented Deepings here at this year British Championships. Competition is the reason we are all here, and didn’t you all compete! Well Done Swimmers!
