“…Counting The Blood of the Covenant as an Unholy Thing”

In Hebrews 10: 29, the Bible says, “Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?” The writer of Hebrews draws a vivid comparison here of the Jewish system of punishmentversus the punishment that is to come upon those who apostatize from Christianity. As the Jewish law confirmed punishment of death without mercy, based upon the testimony of 2 to 3 witnesses (Deut. 17: 6), how much sorer will the punishment be for those who trod under foot the Son of God, and count the blood of the covenant an unholy thing? The answer should be clear to these believers. The writer concludes, “Vengeance belongeth unto me I will recompense saith the Lord. And again the Lord shall judge his people. It is fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God”.
For the content of this article, I would like to give some needed attention to the words, “Counting the blood of the covenant as an unholy thing”. It is apparentthat many do not give honor to the blood of Jesus as they should, and so for our discussion here I would like to consider some scriptural aspects of the blood of Jesus that will help us as Christians to honor the blood of Jesus always, and never bring shame or dishonor to its magnitude or greatness.
Please consider the following statements about the blood of Jesus:
1. We must learn and teach that the blood of Jesus is our cleansing agent for
Salvation.
2. We should never take for granted the divine power of holiness found in the
blood of Christ.
3. We must rely upon the blood of Jesus as our protection against Satan.
4. The blood of Jesus is our peace and blessed hope for eternal life.
In summary, all these points bring us back to the words of, “Counting the blood of the covenant as an unholy thing”Dear reader, our conclusion must be that if we bring such dishonor and shame by counting the blood as unholy, and trampling under foot the Son of Godin our physical life, the Father in heaven promises to bring condemnation upon all who do such. Our hope is that the more we learn about the blood of Jesus, the more we will appreciate what God has done for us, is giving his Son for us.
