Purpose of Creating & Performing Group Dances

“When you become an adult on your own (as well as now), there will be times when you need to perform or do a task in front of a group of people: at your job you may need to give a speech, or you may lead a group at your church. Doing these things in front of people may cause you to be nervous or get “butterflies” in your stomach. Having nervous feelings is normal. The more practice you have of performing in front of people, the easier it is for you to control those nervous feelings so that you can go ahead and do your performance. For example, you might think to yourself “I’m feeling a little nervous but I’m ok. I can handle those nervous feelings and ‘get the job done’.”

This assignment will help you grow:

1. Work as part of a team: cooperate, compromise, give and take, truly listen to others

and their suggestions.

2. Practice showing character as you work with others:

a. Respect others’ opinions, even if you don’t agree or like their idea.

b. Responsibility - Make good use of your time to finish your job before the deadline.

c. Trustworthiness - To show your group and your teacher (boss) that they can count on you to put forth your fair share of the effort.

d. Honesty - To honestly create your own ideas for your 2 required movements.

e. Citizenship - Help each other out in your group. Be a good audience member.

f. Caring - for others’ opinions and feelings. For example, a caring person would not laugh if someone made a mistake as they perform
