CLASS TITLE:REGULATORY SPECIALIST I

This is professional work performing regulation activities which includes complaint analysis and resolution, investigative services, examination services, board office services, or other regulatory related services and resolving consumer complaints.
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

- Reviews applications for licensure to determine eligibility for registration, certification or licensure; evaluates qualifications and licensure criteria in accordance with law and rules.
- Performs professional regulation activities which include complaint analysis, investigative services, examination services, board office services, or other regulatory related services.
- Provides examination services in the regulation process which includes scheduling, grading, and examination review challenges.
- Prepares agenda and materials for board meetings and committee meetings.
- Responds to complaints and inquiries from the consuming public, potential licensees and licensees.
- Reviews curriculum, transcripts, degrees and other educational materials of applicants having received education and training in foreign countries in order to determine applicant eligibility for certification and licensure, and the continuation of practice in the respective profession.
- Performs continuing research to establish current accreditation status of all colleges and universities, and status of approved continuing education providers and provider courses or programs.
- Composes and prepares correspondence regarding licensing and regulation of professionals and facilities and other licensees.
- Recommends action to improve procedures.
- Conducts investigations of firms against whom complaints are lodged to determine if a complaint is valid.
- Prepares reports of findings.
- Makes recommendations regarding settlements.
- Provides assistance to consumers and to subjects of complaints regarding their rights and responsibilities.
- Initiates and coordintes consumer research to determine fraud related cases.
- Referees meter calibrations of utility companies.
- Provides applicants personal guidance regarding certification and licensure, discipline and other regulatory functions.
- Reviews, corrects and ensures correct database entries supporting the licensing program.
- Reviews various license databases for applicants who may have suspended, revoked or questionable licenses in other fields.
- Prepares reports containing possibly confidential and sensitive information for review prior to license issuances.
- Reviews renewal application for completed continuing education requirements, verifies renewal fee payments, and coordinates correction of deficiencies found during renewal reviews.
- Handles incomplete or troubled applications submitted from field offices.
- Handles the collection of monies for returned checks for license fees.
- Investigates, corrects and documents all licensing related errors/problems and reports same to appropriate supervisor.
- Investigates and corrects mismatched fees and unmatched receipts.
- Prepares refund requests.
- Performs related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- An associate's degree from an accredited institution and two years of professional or nonprofessional experience in administrative work and/or professional regulation or field related to area of responsibility; or
- A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
- Professional or nonprofessional experience in administrative work, professional regulation, consumer complaint program work, interviewing, business administration, customer or public relations, investigations, insurance, utilities engineering, or utilities rate analysis may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.
