What is the Wesley Chapel After School Enrichment Program (WASEP)?
WASEP (pronounced “way-sep”) is a collaboration of Wesley Chapel parents, faculty, and staff who provide a variety of quality, enjoyable, and educational classes to all students attending Wesley Chapel Elementary. The purpose of this program is to offer your child an opportunity to explore new avenues in art, music, sciences, sports, or languages on a short-term basis with a goal for your child to develop new skills, interests, and talents.
Registration: To enroll your child, complete BOTH sides of the registration form and attach a check for full payment of his/her desired class. Return it to your child’s teacher OR return it to the school office by theregistration deadline: Friday, February 3rd. Please make your check payable to “Wesley Chapel Elementary School”. A separate registration form is required for each child in your family. One check per child, per registration form please. WCES uses FARS Check Recovery Agency. Any returned checks will be turned over to this agency for recovery/payment. Classes are filled on a first-come first-served basis. We strongly suggest you note a second choice on the registration form, in the event that the first choice is unavailable. You will be notified by email or telephone if your child could not be placed in his/her desired classes. Once the enrollment process is complete, you will be notified through your child’s folder of his/her class placement.
Classes: Classes are tailored for specific age group/grade. Please check this information when you are choosing a class for your child. Classes which do not meet minimum enrollment requirements may need to be cancelled. Please consider your child’s opinion before enrolling him/her in a class as we are unable to make changes once classes have started and refunds cannot be processed, once the program begins. Due to the overwhelming popularity of the WASEP program, classes are limited to “elementary” school-aged students of WCES only.
Scholarships: A limited number of scholarships are available. Please submit a request with the registration form indicating the amount needed and reason for the request to Dr. Gravely. All requests will be kept confidential. You will be notified prior to the beginning of classes regarding the status of your scholarship award.
Teacher Work Days and School Holidays and Inclement Weather: Classes will not be held on these days. Instructors will schedule make-up classes.
Snacks: WASEP will provide a snack for your child such as chips, popcorn, crackers, cookies or fresh fruit. If your child has any food allergies, please indicate this on the registration form and provide your child with his/her own snack.
Dismissal: Parents are requested to come to the double doors between the art room and music room to pick up their children promptly at the end of the WASEP classes. All classes end at 3:15 pm. It is critical that parents be on time. Please note: If your child is picked up more than 10 minutes late more than one time, you will be charged five dollars a minute for every minute past 3:30 pm. You will need to make your checks out to the Wesley Chapel Elementary School. *Afternoon Transportation Change forms are NOT needed for WASEP classes.
Wesleyville: Children enrolled in Wesleyville must report to the gym as usual before going to WASEP. A WASEP volunteer will then escort the participating children from the gym to the cafeteria. WASEP will also escort them back to the gym at the end of their class. Please note on the registration form if your child is in Wesleyville.
Behavior: Good behavior is expected from the children. Your child may be required to sit out a class if disruptive to others. He/she will need to leave the program if two (2) negative behavior notifications have been given to the parents. No refunds.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Where will my child go after school ends? WASEP children will be escorted to the cafeteria at dismissal time where they will meet parent volunteers who will take attendance and give them a snack. Children will sit at their designated table which will be labeled for their specific class. Each class will then be escorted to the proper WASEP classroom. All belongings (backpacks, jackets, etc.) should be taken to the cafeteria. Wesleyville children should first report to the gym as usual to check in. A WASEP volunteer will bring them to the cafeteria for attendance and a snack.
How are WASEP children identified? Your child will receive a WASEP nametag labeled with his/her name, WASEP class, and school teacher’s name. You do not need to send in an Afternoon Transportation Change Form as these nametags act as “permission slips” and alert teachers and staff to the child’s after school location that day.
Where are classes held? Classes are held in classrooms or common spaces throughout the school.
How are the children going to be picked up to go home? Parents are asked to park their cars and come to the double doors between the art room and music room to pick up their children from WASEP. Please park and come to the double doors to sign your child out. Parent volunteers will escort Wesleyville children back to Wesleyville.
