COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Spanish 2 is a secondary level course in the Spanish language. During the semester, students will be introduced to a more advanced level of grammar. Students will also improve their skill and knowledge of Spanish pronunciation, spelling, reading, writing and syntax. Students will develop the vocabulary needed to express themselves in speech and writing on a more advanced level. The course learning objectives will be met through in-class assignments, activities and homework.

CLASS RULES:

1. Respect: students must show respect for themselves, fellow students and the teacher at all times.

2. Be prepared: students must bring all required materials to class (textbook, workbook, notebook and dictionary).

3. Be on time: students are to be in their seats when the bell rings and are to remain seated until the teacher dismisses them.

4. NO food: Foods of any type, candy, gum chewing or drinks are not allowed in the classroom. Bottled water is allowed.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS:

1. Students are required to arrive to class on time and prepared for lecture.

2. Students are required to bring all materials to class everyday.

3. Students must put their greatest effort and participation. Active participation in the class is a necessary part to learning in this course. Students are expected to actively participate in class and group work.

4. Complete all class and homework assignments on time. Failure to complete assignments on time will lower the student’s grade. All homework is to be neatly written on notebook paper. NO LATE HOMEWORK WILL BE ACCEPTED.

5. Assignments are to be headed with the student’s name, date, class and period on the top right. Keep all assignments in an organized manner to be reviewed at the teacher’s discretion. They should be neat and legible. Students are required to keep ALL notes, assignments, handouts and this syllabus in our class binder.

6. Quizzes (announced and unannounced) will be given every week to assess progress and identify student weaknesses. Pop quizzes and reading quizzes covering recent material will be given without prior notice. Students need to keep pace on daily learning and reading assignments.

7. Students are expected to consistently check the Alemany.org website for assignments, updates, and important information through out the year.

8. Students are expected to follow ALL disciplinary policies for Alemany and this class at all times.

10. Please note that since this course is to learn a foreign language it is required that students review vocabulary, grammar, and notes every day minimum 30 to 45 minutes to achieve mastery of the target language.

TESTING PROCEDURE AND POLICY

Tests will be administered at the end of every chapter and quizzes will be given weekly or as necessary.

Make up test will be the student’s responsibility. Make up tests will be given only with excused absences. Late assignments will not be accepted.

Any cheating, talking or helping other will result in a “0” on any test or quiz. Work not submitted, due to an excused absence, will be accepted in a period equal to the number of days missed.

94-100% = A 80- 82% = B- 67-69%= D+

90- 93% = A- 77- 79% = C+ 63-66%= D

87- 89% = B+ 73- 76% = C 60-62%= D-

83- 86% = B 70- 72% = C- 0-59%= F

Please Note: With all due consideration given to the above stated guidelines, the final determination of the student’s grade rests with the professional judgment of the teacher.
