Riding Into History Fact Sheet

Origin: Riding Into History began in 2000, making the 2010 event the 11th annual RIH.

Presented by: Volunteers (no paid staff) from BMW Motorcycle Owners of Northeast Florida, Historic Motorcycle Society and other supporting clubs. AMA sanctioned.

Venue: The World Golf Village near St. Augustine, Florida has always hosted the event. The WGV is located just off of I-95, exit 323.

Dates: Grand Marshal’s Dinner (private): May 14, 6:30 PM, Renaissance Hotel at WGV

Charity Rides: May 15, 10 AM. Originating at Harley-Davidson of St. Augustine and BMW Motorcycles of Jacksonville and ending at the WGV. ($15-20)

Riding Into History Concours d’Elegance: May 15, 10 AM – 4 PM ($10)

Biker’s Ball: May 15, 6:30 PM, Renaissance Hotel at WGV ($60)

Historic Ride (Concours entrants and guests only): May 16, 9 AM. Beginning at WGV and continuing to brunch at Harry’s St. Augustine ($20)

Charity: All proceeds go to theWounded Warrior Project. To date, RIH has contributed over $170,000 to the charity

Concours: 300 – 400 antique, vintage, classic, custom and competition motorcycles on display. Trophies in every class (about 60 total). Approximately 3,000 - 4,000 spectators.

Also exhibitors, clubs, food and entertainment. This year Craig Vetter will host free seminars and Grand Marshal Clement Salvadori. This year the Concours is featuring “Great Motorcycles of Great Britain”

Biker’s Ball: Selected motorcycles on display, dinner, music, dancing, silent auction, talk by Grand Marshal Clement Salvadori About 300 guests expected.

Quotes: Peter Egan, the 2006 Grand Marshal said, “The big shaded circular promenade at World Golf Village is the best place I've ever seen for a bike show.”

The 2005 Grand Marshal Dennis Gage noted, “With the World Golf Village as its backdrop, this is the premiere motorcycle Concours d'Elegance in North America.”

Perhaps Craig Vetter, the 2004 Grand Marshal summed it up best when he said, “A good cause, good people and good bikes. It doesn't get any better than that."

News Release:The Tenth Annual Riding Into History, May 15, 2010

Riding Into History, one of America’s premier vintage motorcycle events, will return for its 11th Anniversary to the World Golf Village near St. Augustine, Florida on May 15, 2010. The event will feature Charity Rides, a Concours d’Elegance, the Biker’s Ball and the Historic Ride. All of the proceeds from Riding Into History will benefit the Wounded Warriors Project.

The event is presented by the Riding Into History Committee, which is comprised of volunteer members from the BMW Motorcycle Owners of Northeast Florida (BMWNEF), the Historic Motorcycle Society (HMS) and other supporting clubs.

Between 300 and 400 antique, vintage and classic motorcycles from all over the country are expected to enter the Concours. Thousands of spectators are once again expected to enjoy the event which also includes, exhibitors, entertainment, clubs and a variety of food. Admission is still only $10 at the gate for the Concours. Various packages are available for the Biker’s Ball and the Charity Rides, and they will be posted on the website – RidingIntoHistory.org.

Craig Vetter, world famous designer and Motorcycle Hall of Fame member will be conducting free seminars.

Internationally known motorcycle artist Don Bradley will once again provide the original artwork for the posters, which have become collectors’ items. Posters, t-shirts and other items will be available at RidingIntoHistory.org and at the event. Current event sponsors include Sargent Cycle Products, Harley-Davidson of St. Augustine and Mercedes-Benz, Hampton Road Racing and BMW Motorcycles of Jacksonville .
