It’s that time of the year again --- where has the summer gone?! Mark your calendars for Sunday, September 11th as LCR’s Rally Day for Fall Education Hour and Worship. So what does it mean – “Rally”? Which would you pick? What is Rally Sunday?
*an automobile race run over public roads
*call to arms
*gather or bring together, “muster the courage to do something”
*a large gathering of people intended to arouse enthusiasm
*the feat of mustering strength for a renewed effort
Well I’m guessing it’s not necessarily a like a sports rally, car rally, rallying the troops for a win, or a pep rally. From these thoughts I visualize a scene with great energy and enthusiasm - a group of people gearing up to be ready for whatever comes next. Oh wait – could it be? When do we rally or how do we rally for Christ’s message and mission? What better way than to gather – arouse enthusiasm – muster strength for renewed effort – bring people together for a purpose! That is one of the goals of Rally Sunday, 2011. We are going to rally in service, worship and fellowship. It will be a full day of rallying!
We will begin at 9:00am with Education Hour for ALL AGES as we talk about ways to serve God and our neighbor. All are welcome to stop by and help tie quilts for Lutheran World Relief, stuff some bags for Brown Bag Ministry, or make some greeting cards for residents of Deer Creek Assisted Living.
Our offering for our Education Hour and Worship service this day will be bars of soap. Yes, that’s right; we are beginning our soap collection super early this year! All children, youth and adults are encouraged to bring AT LEAST one bar of soap to offer in service with LWR efforts. We will collect soap at both Education Hour and Worship.
During our regularly scheduled worship service (10:00am) we will have a special blessing for our Education Hour Teachers as they rally for a year of service in education. We will also spend time in remembrance of that one day, 10 years ago, (9/11) when thousands rallied together to hold on to one another in life and love. We will honor and bless those who have fallen and those who continue to serve to secure the safety of all people.
We will then rally around the pool and fire pit (better known as the food table) at Travis & Dianne Kilpatrick’s home (2 Springwood) for fellowship and fun. Come on over after worship and join the fun – in or out of the pool – as we continue to rally and discover anew God’s purpose for our community. Please feel free to bring a dish to share with the group.
So whether or not you have participated in the past --- come on over this year because, yes, I would say it is time to rally! Rally with all we have and are to do the work of Christ in this community. We hope to see you at LCR on Sunday, September 11th.
Rally On!

Taco Sunday To Begin
On Sunday, September 25th the youth will begin their Taco Sunday efforts of feeding the masses at LCR as well as supporting different ministries that are the youth’s passions. For September we are giving the donations from the taco sales to Children’s Haven International (CHI). You may remember that in 2000 Chuck Tise was instrumental in beginning this ministry connection and the Hickman family continues to support the efforts of this great ministry. We are excited to be in partnership with CHI.
Children’s Haven International (CHI) provides home and refuge to 50+ needy children from broken, abusive, or impoverished families. Our children usually range in age from 1 to 18. The mission of Children’s Haven International is to fully provide for each of the youngsters who come under our care; so that his or her physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual needs may be met and that he or she can become a responsible, Christian citizen of their country. Tribal Confirmation Has Begun
Please be in prayer for tribal confirmation which began in August. Tribal confirmation is made up of the current Jr. High Youth at LCR, Living Word (Buda), Holy Cross (Austin), New Life (Dripping Springs), and New Hope (Blanco) as well as their pastors. We are meeting two Sunday’s/month at Dripping Springs. LCR currently has no students in the tribe, but we remain part of the efforts of this educational opportunity. So Pastor Jennifer is still teaching and attending. Please be in prayer for all of the students, pastors/teachers, and families as they continue to learn and connect with God in new ways.
Pastor is in need of assistance: Pastor will have to provide a meal for class three times this year. If you are interested in helping her to prepare and serve this meal --- please talk to her ASAP.
National Youth Gathering Info
Registration form and $150 deposit is due to Pastor Jennifer by September 11th.
Talk to Pastor for more details. Or you can go to for more information.
Why go back? In 2009, 37,000 ELCA young people showed up in New Orleans ready to help rebuild a struggling city. They completed service projects -- painted, took out trash, raked, cleaned and made repairs. But they also made human connections. They learned about hospitality and how people overcame anxiety with an unwavering faith. They began a journey that travels far beyond hammering nails. A journey that the people of New Orleans are anxious to continue. That's why the ELCA Youth Gathering is going back to New Orleans in 2012. We have the unique opportunity to continue the good work in a place where everybody knows us as the "orange shirt" people. A place that wants to have us back and still has more to teach us.
We continue to pray for all who are ill and recovering and receiving treatments or testing and for Betty Spickler, Pat Spickler, Larry Fuhr, Pam Longoria, Hugh Ellington, Ruth Ann Heidenmeyer (sister of John Hill), Jim Valentine (father of Jason Valentine), Dot Currie (sister of Dirk Dierking), Aiden Pederson (friend of Lois Hickman), Chase Hutchinson (grand-nephew of Brenda Moore), Chelsea Livingston (granddaughter of Dorcy Rhea), Samatha Stotland (friend of Brenda Moore), Melissa Larson (daughter of Dorcy Rhea), Colleen Toppett and all care givers that devote their time to care for those they love.
Please be in prayer for our family and friends who are serving our country either stateside or overseas. Pray daily for peace in our world, particularly in Libya and the Middle East, and for all who suffer the consequences of war. We continue to pray for those who are hungry and for those who serve them. Please be in prayer for the Lord to replenish the earth as He sees fit. We also lift in prayer the families that are struggling with separation and divorce. We pray for those affected by tornadoes, floods, earthquakes, wind and dust storms as well as fires.
WE CAN’T THANK YOU ENOUGH!
