Work Experience

Academic Experience

Faculty Lecturer in the Professions in Deafness Major/Education of Deaf Children B-12 program, University of North Carolina at Greensboro (2007 - Present). Teach American Sign Language I to students in the PID major, Interprofessional and Instructional Experience I, Communication Development of Children, Visual English Systems, and supervise student teachers. Coordinate the placements for interns and student teachers. Advise all B-12 Deaf Education Teacher Licensure students each semester and students from all concentrations during SOAR. Faculty advisor for the Sign Club on campus (Deaf Hearing College Connection).

Visiting Lecturer in the interpreter Training Program, University of North Carolina at Greensboro (2003-2007). Taught American Sign Language to English and supervised internships in the Interpreter Training Program and the Community Based Services concentration.

Sign Language Interpreter, Guilford County Schools (2000 - 2004). Served as an educational interpreter in preschool, elementary, middle and high school settings. Helped with Sign club and tutored.

Adjunct Instructor, Alamance Community College (1992 - 1993). Taught beginning ASL for continuing education program.

Teacher, Central North Carolina School for the Deaf, Central North Carolina School for the Deaf (1990 - 1996). Taught children who were deaf or hard of hearing in preschool setting on Durham Satellite campus, supervised and evaluated teachers aides, facilitated transition to kindergarten, created and conducted parent education seminars and sign classes, served on the Orange County Preschool Community Forum to coordinate services for various agencies relating to preschool aged children, taught kindergarten aged children on main campus.

Sign Language Interpreter, Guilford County Schools (1988 - 1990). Served as an educational interpreter in preschool, elementary, middle and high school settings. Helped with Sign club and tutored.

Teacher, Brownwood Independent School District, Brownwood Independent School District (1986 - 1988). Taught children who were deaf or hard of hearing from age 4 age 18. Created and taught parent education and sign classes, coordinated services for mainstreamed students and supervised and evaluated interpreters and teachers aides, established and maintained children's sign choir.

2005-2010: Partnership Advisory Committee: coordinate the annual meeting, develop meeting materials, take and disseminate minutes, plan and co-lead the event which brings together various professionals in the Deaf Education field to gather feedback for our programs.

2008-2009: UNCG Re-Visioning Team: helped 're-vision' the Deaf Education and ASL Teacher Licensure Curricula to prepare graduates to be effective teachers in the 21st Century, developed new courses

2007-2008: School of Education's Scholarship committee: reading applications and helping to determine the best recipients for the available scholarship monies.

2012-present: Member of PEPSI committee for ASL screening of all PID concentrations; administer and score test, notify students of scores

2015: Member of ASL Placement test committee- revised ASL 1 and ASL 2 test questions for written and performance tests

2012: Assisted with program revision of B-12 D/HH Teacher Licensure program

2007-present: produce DVDs used by PID and LLC students for ASL courses

2010: Revisioning: Began revisioning and completed recreation of Sign Proficiency Test for Deaf Ed. B-12 majors

2010: Program Coordinator: Served as program coordinator during colleague's research leave

2010: Curriculum Development: Development of curriculum for SES 101, non-major sections, to be shared w/ adjunct faculty

2010: Tutoring Program, Spring 2008-Spring 2010; Set and up continue tutoring partnership with Northeast Middle and Monticello Brown-Summit Elementary School for students in the Deaf Education B-12 program

2010: Visual Phonics workshop, coordinated the speaker, participants, and room arrangement for the 2 day event that is for faculty, student and community members

2010-present: ASL Idol, Spring 2006-2010; helped with auditions, videotaping, video production, coordinating front of house activities, publicity for the event and served as emcee.
