SYHI Board Meeting Minutes

Call to order 7:09 by President Ovitt

  1. Adopt August Minutes- Ovitt
  2. Motion Ovitt, 1st Durant, 2nd Waters
  1. October 14 Fall Classic Follow Up– Ovitt & Guyette
  2. Bethlehem did not provide an adequate amount of Mites which led our House Mites to play against one another cross-ice.
  3. We will try and get everything set earlier next season to secure more food donations namely burgers
  4. Work with a local restaurant or two which will help to secure these donations
  5. Equipment Swap – Molly reported that we cleared $120 with the equipment swap. We kept a few sets of equipment and the remainder was donated to Corinth Youth Hockey
  1. Tournament Discussion – Levin
  2. Squirts are up first in December, concern about securing teams – so far we have Burlington at the A level and Adirondack at the B. Berkshire came on board A& B during the meeting
  3. Mites – still early but Rome and Brockport at A and Rome at B registered
  4. Pee Wee is the first week of January and we have some registration, Burlington, Skaneateles
  5. Trophy’s for 1st and 2nd
  6. Discussion of goodie bags – what goes in
  7. How much to spend per tournament $300 per tournament on trophy’s medals etc.
  8. Get quotes to compare for skate towels etc.
  9. MVP puck for each game in a case
  10. Coordinate with team managers to get a level director for each tournament Dibs available
  1. Try Hockey for Free
  2. Saturday November 4th in Vernon right before Mite Selects Game and after City LTS – Steve Staged it this way
  3. Obtaining the Try Hockey for Free Trailer
  4. Concern was liability if we pay someone to pick it up
  5. We can give the volunteer a Stewart’s Gift Card for Gas money
  6. Try hockey for free again on March 3rd
  7. Molly is out of town for both dates – we need help on and off the ice, we have 4 on and 4 off so far

  2. So far we have kept all of our ice – all good
  3. There was a request for a schedulers and Managers meeting to go over the new system we are using
  1. Fundraising - Eddy
  2. Dashers – we need an inventory of what stays up and what comes down
  3. Tournament Sponsorship is all set
  4. Change in vending machine as we are switching to Coke products
  5. Live Barn – City is still in holding pattern
  6. Rodney and Shane are going to match up sponsorship with what Shane has collected payment
  7. Questions were asked about Jay from Hockey Town and his follow through with funds owed to SYHI, Melinda is to collect on Friday or Jay is on standstill, it seems he promises donations but does not follow through. Frank is checking Thursday on this issue.
  8. Jay would like to sharpen skates once per month in Saratoga but he needs to make it right for us not just him

  12. New Year’s Eve 5:00 Game
  13. The Thunder are ready to send players down to skate with our Mites
  14. Will contribute Raffle Basket Item for Home Tournaments
  15. Next Year would like to sponsor our organization – between period skates for our players at Thunder games
  16. Provide discounted tickets through our website or snack bar in which our organization gets a small return
  1. Scholarship Program / Skidmore – Ovitt
  2. Skidmore player Andy Mooney is interested in helping SYHI raise money for our scholarship program
  3. We have no balance so this is a good place to start

  2. St. Patrick’s Day Spring Classic- Schenectady would like to attend
  3. Green Ice, get media coverage and another great way to showcase our organization

  2. Updates will be sent out to Team Managers
  3. Rink Policy comes from the city not SYHI – we must adhere to their policy

  3. John Almansberger to present Clear Edge Concussion system at our next meeting
  4. Kathleen Kauth former Saratoga Youth Hockey Player and Olympian in town December 12th

  6. Cost of each level was discussed
