Fundraisers: most of the fundraisers done in our school are usually done within the school. We do not extend outside the school that much, as most of the items are optometry related. Here are some that are not optometry related

  • Large and Small Poinsettia sales through SVOSH (Student Volunteers in Optometric Services to Humanity)
  • Every November: contact an SVOSH member to purchase

  • Wed Feb 4th and Friday Feb 6th from 12-1
  • Bring your white coat w/ an index card of how you want your name spelled and the size of your coat – name will be above the pocket
  • You will be leaving your coat there for us to send out so only bring one at a time
  • Price $10 per coat

Events

  • AOSA EyeBall
  • February 14th, 2009
  • Our annual optometry ball $35 for American Optometric Student Association and $40 for others includes dinner, beer, wine, and pop
  • EYE Broomball
  • Weekend in February
  • Go to Easton’s Ice Rink and play broomball (1st v. 2nd years and 3rd vs. 4th years)
  • AOSA Optometry Superbowl: a quizbowl event where three 3rd year Opt students compete for a scholarship/travel grant to the Optometry’s Meeting (see below)in June where they will compete against a member from each school to determine national champion
  • Wed Feb 17th @ 7
  • EYE Fun Run (5k) benefiting Pilot Eye Dogs
  • Open to ALL
  • Weekend in May (TBD)
  • Through Epsilon Psi Epsilon (EYE) and it benefits Pilot Eye Dogs, which help train, raise, and provide seeing eye dogs to the blind

  • Optometry’s Meeting (AOA – American Optometric Association) June 24-28
  • Location: Washington D.C
  • When: June 24-28
  • EYE Annual White Water rafting trip
  • When: August – September (a weekend in this time frame)
  • Where: West Virginia
  • SVOSH Trip to Honduras (Danli and Patuca)
  • Give about 2500 eye exams in 4 days
  • When: around Sept 5 –Sept 13
  • This area is in need d/t devastating floods that occurred last summer

Others

  • Building a new building!!!
  • We are currently in the process of a feasibility study and feasibility fund raiser study
  • This means that there is a study to determine where/how to build a new building for the optometry school (d/t current facilities are almost 100 years old in some parts)
  • The fund raiser study is to determine where we can get our funding
  • Probably won’t start construction for 5-10 years
  • Talks w/ dental school as well for combining buildings/lectures
  • This is all in 1st stages of planning though so it is VERY subject to change
