THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

WEEK BEGINNING MONDAY 5TH MARCH 2018

WELLBEING TASK OF THE WEEK: MAKE SOMEONE LAUGH TODAY

KEY WORDS FOR CONSIDERATION:HUMOUR; POSITIVE; LAUGHTER; EASES TENSION; ALLIES; FOIBLES

PRAYER TO BE REPEATED EACH DAY: Lord, let us bring joy into each corner of our lives. Let our laughter flow freely, shining light into even the saddest heart. Amen.

  1. In a recent poll conducted by Entertainment Weekly magazine, they found that 82% of the people who go to movies want to laugh, 7% want to cry, and 3% want to scream. This gives you an idea of how we value the sensations of laughter over so many other things.

Laughter and humour can be two of our best allies – why?

  1. ‘It takes courage to laugh, to have a sense of humour. Why? Because when something is really funny it is a reflection of our own foibles and weaknesses, those things about ourselves which make us cringe. To have a good sense of humour, we must be able to not take ourselves too seriously – to be able to laugh with, not at, ourselves as we stumble and stagger through the comedy of life’.

We can laugh with ourselves and develop our sense of humour, when we know things about ourselves. We can know things about ourselves when we use our courage to look honestly and truthfully at how we really are.

Do you have the courage to laugh with yourself?

  1. The clouds above us join and separate,

The breeze in the courtyard leaves and returns.

Life is like that, so why not relax?

Who can stop us from celebrating?

By focusing on the beauty, wonder, delight and peace in our lives, we can embrace each day with a glad heart – and when we feel light-hearted, it is so much easier to make the world a place of love and laughter.

How will you embrace the day today?
