Inter-campus Delivery Requests - Fact Sheet

What is an inter-campus delivery request?
The ability in the Catalogue to request a Regular Loan book (item status 01) that is sitting on the shelf on one campus, for pickup at a library on the other campus. The “pickup” library then performs the loan.
Who is allowed to place an inter-campus delivery request?
McGill students and staff (borrower status 01, 02, 03, 04). This will include Faculty Spouses and Authorized Borrowers who are given the status of 03 under an FS or OT card. All other OT cards must use statuses 05 or higher.
How does it work?
STEP 1 – Book is requested by the user
For McGill students and staff – a“Request Delivery to …” screen displays when they use the “request” link for an item that is on the shelf.
This is the screen for a “downtown” book – their only option will be to pick it up at Macdonald.
This is the screen for the request for a Macdonald book; they get to choose their favourite ‘downtown’ library for pickup:
A confirmation screen shows next:
For non-McGill borrowers, this screen appears if they click on “request” for a book in the shelf. Note: there is no “Place Inter-campus Request” button.
System actions upon the placing on an inter-campus hold
1) In the catalogue, the item is flagged as requested.
In the borrower’s library account under “Requests”, it looks like this:
And expanded:
Under Items in the Circulation Module, it looks like this:
2) A Hold Request slip is printed at the owning library:
Step 2 – Item is pulled from the shelf by the owning library and sent in-transit to the pickup library
Once found, the item must be discharged. This puts the item into transit to the pickup library. A transfer slip is printed and a transfer email is sent to the pickup library.
The Catalogue shows the charge to the in-transit card:
The user sees this under Hold Requests details in their Library Account:
In Staff Mode, under Items, it looks like this:
STEP 3 – Item arrives at the pickup library and is placed on the hold shelf
Upon arrival at the pickup library, the item is discharged, and the alert to place the item on the hold shelf displays.
The user is sent email informing them that the item is on the pickup library’s hold shelf:
