  • Approx. 20 attendees introduced themselves. Quorum of School Council was achieved.

Approval of Minutes /
  • Brief discussion about circulating draft minutes. Mr. Felsen will remind parents that draft and approved minutes are posted on School Council section of the school web site (northern-secondary.com).
  • Draft minutes of October 20, 2015 were approved.

Media Smarts /
  • Ms. Solomon gave a report on the recent media workshop provided at the school. There is a need for ongoing media education. Suggestion made to train student leaders to provide education to future Grade 9 students, perhaps as part of Phys Ed curriculum.
  • She will provide Council with a link to the workshop PowerPoint and a useful handout on digital parenting styles[HW2]. (See links below)

Community Rep. /
  • Council asked Dale Callender to be the Community Rep. but he declined owing to other commitments. He will try to come to meetings nevertheless but will not be a voting member. No other suggestions for an appropriate community rep.
  • It was decided that the position of Community Rep. would be left open and if an appropriate candidate steps up then his/her candidacy can be considered at that time. (Motion Carried)

SSON /
  • Sue presented a draft SSON (school statement of needs) for consideration. Draft was discussed and vote will take place at next meeting.

Budget /
  • Adam presented a pro forma budget for 2015/16 based on the prior year. Draft was discussed, but not finalized. Continuation of budget deferred until next meeting.
