Position:Communications Internship

Duration: Two months (Monday 13 July to Friday 4 September)
Salary:£12,709.82pro rata

IRC-UK is offering a two month paid internship in its communications team this summer. The role is ideally suited to someone with excellent writing and editing skills, as well as a flair for social media, eager to gain work experience in communications, media relations and humanitarian aid.
The role will involve working closely with IRC-UK’s Press and PR Manager and Communications Manager in supporting the work of a busy communications department. Duties will include:
- Researching the IRC’s impact in key countries to identify communications opportunities
- Support the IRC’s social media efforts on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Storify
- Share important news items, media coverage
- Help compile and disseminate an internal newsletter
- Researching journalists and building press lists
- Media monitoring and recording media coverage
- Drafting communications for the general public including text for website, online,print and social media posts; case studies; andupdates
- Check, edit and upload materials to the website: and review IRC-UK’s resource library of communications materials andwebsite
Depending on your background and skills base, learning opportunities will include:
- Firm understanding of humanitarian PR
- Develop and refine written communication skills for diverse audiences anddifferent platforms including publications, online, social media
- An understanding of humanitarian aid, recovery and development
- The work of a communications team in supporting an organisation achievingits mission
- Project management skills
- A general understanding of working in the not-for-profit sector.
Application
No previous experience is necessary however you must:
- Have a genuine interest and some understanding of IRC’s work and mandate
- Demonstrate interest and a good understanding of communications,marketing, journalism or a related field
- Have excellent writing skills and an understanding of writing for different audiences
- Be able to distill key information and produce content for varied audiences
- Be open to learning and contributing ideas
- Understand the role of social media in effective communications
- Be proficient with different design and Microsoft Office software.
