Dear Churchville Student & Parents:
This packet contains information about how to participate in Churchville’s 4th Annual Science Fair on Thursday November 5, 2015, including

- Project Ideas
- Science Project & Display Board Guide.
Please review all of this information, as well as the following details:
Parents, please fill out registration form by and return when picking up the Science display boards on
- Back-to-School Nights Sept 1 & 2, or
- first PTO meeting Sept 8, or
- Back-to-School Picnic Sept 10, or
- School Store (when open, deadline: Oct 16)
$5 is due at that time. This fee is per board; i.e. one fee per individual, group or family.
- Topic must be submitted by November 1, 2015
- Science boards & displays MUST be set up in CES Gym in the evening of November 4,, 2015, between 5-7pm. Science Fair volunteers will assist you. Be sure your display complies with all Science Fair Rules.
- Projects must be labeled as one of the following:
- Individual Student Project (almost all work is completed by the student)
- Family Project (other family members help to create the project)
- Group Student Project (project is completed by up to three students)
- Classes will visit the Science Fair during the day, Thursday, November 5, 2015.
- The Science Fair will be open to our School Community on Thursday evening, November 5, from 6:30-8:00 pm. Families and friends are welcome!
- ALL Science Fair Displays MUST be removed at the end of the Science Fair evening.

CHURCHVILLE SCIENCE FAIR RULES
- All projects should be clearly labeled with the student’s name, grade, and homeroom.
- All experiments using animals or humans as subjects should cause no harm or undue stress to the subject. These projects should have written approval from the teacher and/or a veterinarian before beginning the experiment.
- No live animals may be exhibited at the Science Fair. Models, stuffed animals, or photographs should be used instead. Exceptions may be granted with special permission.
- No human body parts should be displayed. Exceptions are teeth, hair, and nails.
- Students should avoid doing experiments involving bacteria cultures. (No molds)
- No controlled substances shall be exhibited.
- No dangerous or combustible chemicals shall be displayed at the Science Fair. Rockets or engines must not contain fuel. All chemicals displayed should have the contents clearly marked on the container. (No volcano projects can erupt at school.)
- All liquids brought into the school MUST be labeled NON-TOXIC.
- No open flames will be permitted at the school.
- Experiments requiring electricity for the display are discouraged, as we do not have access to a large number of power outlets in the Gym.
- Student experimenters shall wear safety goggles (eye protection) and follow standard safety practices when working at home with fire, hot liquids, or caustic chemicals. Parent approval and supervision are required for these projects, which must be conducted at home.
- Expensive or fragile items should not be displayed. Valuable items essential to the project should be simulated or photographed. Churchville cannot be responsible for any items that are lost or broken.
- Collections (i.e., minerals, shells, feathers, etc.) should be protected with a suitable covering.
- Items to be displayed in front of the backboard shall be adequately secured (i.e., batteries, wire, switch, and motor – secure to a piece of plywood and place in front of backboard).
- Carefully pack all materials when transporting to and from the Science Fair.
