London Marathon Events Volunteer
Task description
Are you passionate about engaging others in fighting world poverty? Do you have an enthusiasm for running or an interest in events fundraising? If so, we would love you to help us to manage our team and post-race reception for the London Marathon 2017. You will have the chance to gain events management experience, get experience in working for a well-known international development organisation and help us to eradicate global poverty. As an events volunteer you will have the opportunity to be part of a team, develop your skills in events fundraising work, learn more about the underlying causes of poverty, and make a difference to the lives of some of the world’s poorest people by raising funds and bringing the issues to as wide an audience as possible through events.
What will I do?
- Work alongside the Community Events Fundraising Coordinator to provide supporter care for the London Marathon 2017 to maximize their fundraising
- Organise the post-race reception and logistics on the day of the event
- Encourage people to support the work of Christian Aid through giving their time and money.
- Consider and identify new audiences to encourage them to fundraise for Christian Aid.
Events fundraising volunteers work in cooperation with Christian Aid staff.
How much time can I give?
This will depend on your availability and the task. You can discuss this with a member of staff.
What skills do I need?
This will depend on the tasks to be undertaken but may include:
- Excellent communication skills
- An ability to motivate and enthuse others to take action
- Good organizational skills
- Good time-management skills.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Ability to be proactive and reactive
- Ability to think of exciting ways to fundraise for Christian Aid
- An ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- IT skills would be an advantage.
What support will I receive?
- Appropriate induction and training for your volunteering role.
- Supervision whilst undertaking your volunteering task.
- One-to-one support sessions with a named contact within Christian Aid.
- Any resources required to run events.
- Out-of-pocket expenses.
Are there any other requirements?
- A commitment to Christian Aid’s aims to challenge and change the systems that keep people poor.
- An understanding of development issues.
- It would be helpful if you have access to a computer with email
