Greetings, Class of 2016!Welcome to the December issue of The Senior Scholarship Bulletin, your guide to scholarships and money for college. Each month this newsletter will give you information on scholarship applications that come through the counseling office, plus general financial aid, and HOPE scholarship information. Please remember that this list is not inclusive of all scholarships that are available to you and that more scholarship information is available on the Internet and directly from colleges. Also please be sure to listen during morning announcements for local scholarship applications that may be available in the counseling office throughout the school year.

Scholarship Listing for December 2015

  • The Burger King Scholars Program. High school seniors can apply to receive up to $50,000 in scholarship awards for the 2016-2017 school year. High school seniors must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 to be eligible. For more information visit: Deadline: December 15, 2015
  • OCA Georgia offers an annual scholarship to recognize Asian-American high school seniors in the state of Georgia for academic, community, cultural service, athletic excellence and achievements. Two $1000.00 scholarships will be awarded to qualifying seniors. The scholarship will be awarded to applicants with low-income status. The applicant will be also be evaluated on their scholastic and personal achievements. Please see Ms. Jackson in counseling office for the application and more information.   • Ithaca College Martin Luther King Scholar.The MLK Scholar Program is open to academically talented high school seniors with ethnic and racial backgrounds that have been historically underrepresented in U.S. higher education. To apply, complete The Common Application online no later than January 2, 2016. You must also complete the MLK Scholar Program application, available at Click on the scholarships tab to apply. The application and two required essays must be submitted by January 15, 2016.
  • Asian Pacific Islanders for Professional and Community Advancement of AT&T is accepting applications for their scholarship program. You must meet the following requirements: minimum unweighted GPA of 3.4, who plans to attend an accredited college (2 year or 4 year). You must also be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. Students from any ethnic or cultural background are eligible to apply. For more information and to download the application, please visit

  • Fannie Wilder Educational Fund. The Fannie Wilder Educational Fund is providing scholarships for deserving students. Applicants must be a female high school senior, must be a resident of Georgia, must have a minimum GPA of 2.5, must demonstrate traits of high personal character and leadership, must demonstrate academic achievement and financial need.   • UNCF Stem Scholars Program. The UNCF STEM Scholars Program is a new initiative designed to provide scholarship and academic support for talented African American high school students who aspire to pursue careers in the STEM fields. Tiered tuitions scholarships up to a total of $25,000
  • $2,500-freshmen and sophomores academic years
  • $5,000-juniors and seniors academic years
  • An additional $5,000-fifth year students
  • A $5,000 internship stipend for a STEM-related project

To qualify, applicant must be an African American, have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on an unweighted scale in math and science courses including pre-calculus, and have a demonstrated financial need.   • Buick Achievers Scholarship Program. If you have the passion to succeed—especially in the fields of study related to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM)—the Buick Achievers Scholarship Program is looking for you.   • Georgia Business Aviation Association. Awards of up to $2,000 each are available to students pursuing an education in Aviation Maintenance Technology, Aviation Operations, Aviation Management, Aeronautical Engineering, and other aviation-related disciplines.   • Champion Law Firm Scholarship.The Champion Law Firm is offering a $2,500 scholarship to one Georgia high school aged student and one college-aged student.
    Students will be asked to create a short (30-120 second) video telling about how they plan to become the champion at whatever they do or plan to do. You must also tell how this scholarship will help you reach your goals. The student will then upload their video to YouTube.For more information visit: Deadline: March 15, 2016
  • Savannah Coastal Empire Society of Women Engineers Scholarship. SWE Savannah Coastal Empire will be awarding a $1000.00 scholarship for the upcoming 2015-2016 school year. The student must meet the following requirements to apply: female enrolled in her senior year of high school, intends to pursue a bachelor’s degree at an ABET university in engineering, computing or engineering technology, be a resident of one of the following Georgia counties: Bryan, Chatham, Effingham, Liberty, Long or McIntosh.   • 2016 Julian and Jan Hester Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship is an opportunity for students to learn moreabout the importance of community banking and what it represents in the community. The scholarship is open to Georgia high school seniors who will be entering a Georgia college, university or technical school(two year program or more) in the fall semester of2016. Four winning recipients will be awarded a$1,000 scholarship. Applications must be submitted to the Community Bankers Association of Georgia through a local CBA member bank.(Carver State Bank (912)233-9971, Mr. Robert James or First Chatham Bank (912)629-2920, Mr. Ken Farrell).   • Nursing Scholarship. Nursing School Almanac has launched its second annual Aspiring Nurse Scholarship. One $1000.00 scholarship will be awarded to an inspiring nurse who best demonstrates: a record of academic excellence, particularly in math and science and a passion for the nursing/healthcare field. This scholarship is open to high school seniors who plan to pursue a degree in nursing, including LPN,LVN, ADN and BSN programs.   • College Sports Scholarships. Sports is a more than wins and losses and while we are committed to helping athletes find opportunities to play sports at the college level, we believe the most important thing is getting a college education. As an organization we are proud to award a $1,000 scholarship to a college student who best represents a true leader in sports and life.   • The Great Clips Scholarship. Current students, high school students and anyone interested in cosmetology or barbering as a career can apply for a scholarship through the Alice Madden Barton Scholarship Program. These scholarships can be used at any cosmetology or barbering school. These scholarships are given twice a year in January and July to applicants who can demonstrate a passion for the craft and dedication to developing their skills.   • Army ROTC Scholarships. The Four-Year High School Scholarship is for high school students planning on attending a four-year college program.REQUIREMENTS:be a U.S. citizen, be between the ages of 17 and 26, have a high school GPA of at least 2.50, have a high school diploma or equivalent, score a minimum of 920 on the SAT (math/verbal) or 19 on the ACT (excluding the required writing test scores), meet physical standards and agree to accept a commission and serve in the Army on Active Duty or in a Reserve Component (Army Reserve or Army National Guard).

APPLY ONLINE FOR AN ARMY ROTC FOUR-YEAR HIGH SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP:If you are applying for a scholarship, you first will need to create a MY GOARMY account. Once you create an account, you will be sent to the MY GOARMY Log In page. Once you can successfully login to MY GOARMY, you can use your newly created account information to login to thescholarship application site. ARMY ROTC are specifically seeking college-bound students majoring in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM).The Army has recently created “Cyber” as a functional branch for officers in order to build a professional team of elite cyber warriors to defend Army networks and provide dominant full-spectrum cyber operations.   • R&D Systems Scholarship. R&D Systems Scholarship Program will award a $1500 scholarship twice a year to students pursuing a degree in the science related field. Applicant must submit a written statement addressing the following topics: Make a top ten list of why you love science, write a personal statement 500 words or less on how you plan to use your degree to further advance science in your field of interest.   • AXA Achievement Scholarship. The AXA Achievement Scholarship is awarded to one student from each state. Each state winner receives a scholarship award for $10,000. From the pool, of each state winner, ten are selected as national winners and receive an additional $15,000. Applicant must be a current high school senior who plans to enroll full-time in an accredited two-year or four-year college or university for the entire 2016-2017 academic year, and demonstrate ambition and self-drive as evidenced by outstanding achievement in school, community or work-related services.   • Foot Locker Scholarship. The Foot Locker Scholar Athlete Program will honor 20 student-athletes who demonstrate exceptional academic ability and strong leadership skills in sports, their schools and the community with a $20,000 college scholarship. In order to be eligible, the applicant must be a current high school senior entering a four-year accredited college or university in the Fall of 2016, be currently a member( in good standing) of a high school sports team, and have maintained an unweighted GPA of 3.0 or higher from 9th grade to first semester of 12th grade.   • Gates Millennium Scholars (GMS) is accepting applications for their 2015 Scholars Program. This program is for minority students (African-American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian & Pacific Islander American or Hispanic American) who have at least a 3.3 un-weighted GPA and have demonstrated leadership abilities through participation in community service, extracurricular or other activities, and meet the Federal Pell Grant eligibility criteria.   • The James (Coach) Day Scholarship. This scholarship is available to any high school senior track and field active team member of a school participating in the current Bob Hayes Invitational Track and Field Meet. Applicant must have a minimum GPA of 2.0 and must write an essay no more than 250 words describing how your experience in track and field will help you to achieve your career goals. $1000.00 will be awarded to the scholarship winner.   • American Meteorological Society (AMS) Minority Scholarship. The AMS Minority Scholarships will award funding to minority students who have been traditionally underrepresented in the sciences, especially Hispanic, Native American, and Black/African American students. Scholarship eligibility: applicant must be a U.S. citizen or hold permanent resident status, student must plan to pursue careers in the atmospheric or related oceanic and hydrologic sciences (marine biology is not eligible), students eligible to apply for the AMS minority scholarship program may also apply to the AMS Freshman Scholarship Program but can only select one scholarship if selected for both.   • Auburn University is accepting applications for their scholarship program. Several scholarships (Presidential, Heritage and Charter) are available, and each has specific requirements. Please visit: for additional information. Deadline: February 10, 2016.
  • Daughters of the American Revolution. The DAR awards multiple scholarships to students showing dedication to the pursuit of degrees in diverse disciplines including history, law, nursing, and education. For more information please visit Deadline: February 10, 2016
  • Goizueta Scholarship. The Goizueta Foundation Scholars Fund award at Georgia State ismade possible by The Goizueta Foundation, established by Roberto C. Goizueta, the late CEO and chairman of the board of directors of The Coca-Cola Company. The scholarship is designed to increase the number of students of Hispanic/Latino origin who enroll and complete their undergraduate degrees at Georgia State and provide mentors, internshipsandcommunity service experiences to these students so that they can become the leaders of the future.Application Deadline: February 15, 2016 .Pleasenote that you should apply for admission to Georgia State no later than February 6 (and preferably much earlier) to allow sufficient time to be admitted to the university. You must be admitted to Georgia State before you can apply for the Goizueta scholarship.
  • Vegetarian Resource Group Scholarship. The vegetarian resource group scholarship is available to graduating high school seniors. You must have been active in promoting vegetarianism in your school and/or community; and have demonstrated compassion, courage, and a strong commitment to promoting a peaceful world through a vegetarian diet/lifestyle to be considered for this award.   • Create- a-greeting card scholarship. The create-a-greeting card scholarship is open to high school students. To enter, you must design a holiday, get well or birthday greeting card and submit your work to be judged. The winner will receive a $10,000 scholarship.   • Georgia Press Educational Foundation annually awards scholarships to Georgia residents attending Georgia colleges and universities who are pursuing a career in the field of journalism. For more information please visit Deadline: March 1, 2016
  • SunTrust Off to College Scholarship Sweepstakes.Thirty $500 scholarships will be awarded. Open to all high school seniors. Not based on GPA or Financial need. Enter once every 2 weeks, up to 15 times during the sweepstakes period. Two winners randomly chosen every two weeks. The Scholarship Sweepstakes will begin on September 14, 2015.   • George Washington Carver Scholarship. This scholarship awards grants to students who plan to attend a historically black college or university and major in an area of business, math, science or technology.   • Discover Student Loans Scholarship. Discover is giving away $50,000 in scholarships to high school students now through February 29, 2016.   • Jimmy Rane Foundation Scholarship. The Jimmy Rane Foundation was establishedwiththe purpose of sending deserving students to college. Jimmy Rane Foundation scholars are students who exhibit academic excellence, leadership skills and community involvement as well as activities, awards and honors, and who have a demonstrated financial need in order to attend college.   • 2016 GE-Reagan Foundation Scholarship Program. Created to honor the legacy and character of President Ronald Reagan, this program annually rewards up to 20 college-bound students who demonstrate exemplary leadership, drive, integrity, and citizenship with $10,000 renewable scholarships (up to $40,000 per recipient).   • Moody’s Mega Math Challenge. Moody's Mega Math Challenge is a mathematical modeling contest for high school students sponsored by The Moody's Foundation and organized by the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM). The M3Challenge spotlights applied mathematics as a powerful problem-solving tool, and as a viable and exciting profession. Scholarship prizes total $150,000. Students gain the experience of working in teams to tackle a real-world problem under time and resource constraints akin to those faced by industrial applied mathematicians.   • Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute Scholarship. CHCI's scholarship opportunities are afforded to Latino students in the United States who have a history of performing public service-oriented activities in their communities and who demonstrate a desire to continue their civic engagement in the future. There is no GPA or academic major requirement. Students with excellent leadership potential are encouraged to apply.   • Sussle will award a $1,000 scholarship each month to a senior. This is not your usual scholarship. There is no application or essay, and it’s actually fun.   • Georgia Military Scholarship. The state of Georgia offers 42 scholarships per year to Georgia high school seniors who attend the University of North Georgia and commission as officers in the Georgia Army National Guard after graduating with a bachelor’s degree. The scholarship pays for your room, meals, tuition, books, uniforms, and fees. In addition, you receive National Guard weekend drill pay, GI Bill, pay for attending Army basic and advanced training.   • Georgia Tech offers Georgia Tech Promise Scholarship Programfor students whose parents have less than $33,300 in income. Visit more information.
  • Varsity Tutors Scholarship Contestholds a monthly $1,000 college scholarship contest where students must write an essay in response to a monthly prompt. The top five entries with the most votes are reviewed by Varsity Tutors at the end of the month and one winner is chosen to receive the $1,000 college scholarship.   • The Asian Pacific Fund administers 12 scholarship programs to help students achieve their education goals. To apply for a scholarship administered by the Asian Pacific Fund, please review the complete eligibility criteria for each scholarship program, and download the application for the program(s) for which you are eligible.   • Thurgood Marshall College Fund. The awards process is highly competitive and is given to outstanding and qualified students who plan to earn a baccalaureate, graduate or law degree from an accredited college or university.The average award is $3,100 per student per semester.Most scholarships are one year, non-renewable unless otherwise indicated.
