WELCOME
The Mingus Union High School Welding Technology program is an electrifying, hands-on career and technical education course (CTE). The course will encompass tools and equipment used in the welding industry. The course will be held in both classroom and welding shop environments.
The uniqueness of this course demands a mature, responsible, and safe attitude from all students. To prevent accidents from occurring, the following rules have been established. To ensure a safe environment all students will be expected to follow all classroom and safety rules. If a violation occurs, the instructor will issue a warning to the student, contact parents or guardians, and follow all school related policies related to the violation.
5 Simple Rules for a productive, safe, and fun year.
- Be on time
- In the classroom when the bell rings is on time. Being in the shop is not.
- Be Prepared
- Come to class ready to start class
- Be Respectful
- Respect other students, teachers, school property, and yourself.
- Be Safe
- Wear your PPE and no horseplay in the shop
- No food during class time
- Drinks will be allowed until they become a problem.
** Students will not be allowed to work in the welding shop without appropriate clothing. Jeans, sturdy shoes (boots preferred), and cotton shirt.
Prohibited work clothing includes but is not limited to:
- Shorts or Skirts
- Excessively frayed jeans or warm up pants
- Sports Jerseys
- Open toed foot wear of any kind
- Anything that violates school dress code
Decisions about clothing not listed will be at the discretion of the instructor.
**Students not dressed appropriately for shop work will be sent to ALC for the class period.
CLASS OPERATION:
- Be respectful to yourself, others, and equipment. “Due unto others as you would have them do unto you.”
- All students will be issued one new pair of welding gloves and one new pair of safety glasses. You will not be allowed to work without them. If you lose them you will have to replace them at your own expense.
- Students will receive a set amount of materials for each performance task. Additional materials can be purchased if nedded.
- Come to class prepared and ready to work with pencil, pen, paper, gloves, etc.
- Be in class and in your seat before the bell rings to avoid being counted as tardy. Being in the shop and not in the classroom when the bell rings will be a tardy.
- All assigned home work and class work that is turned in after the due date, will be considered late and you will receive half credit.
- If you are absent for any reason it is your responsibility to find out what you missed and when it’s due.
- If you need to use the restroom you need to ask first. Leaving class without permission for any reason will not be tolerated.
- Your grades will be determined by the following:
-Exams: written and skill based-Class participation
-Welding assignments-Homework and quizzes
-SkillsUSA participation-Bell work
- Grades will be posted by student I.D. number periodically. Each student should check their grade to be aware of their class progress and missing assignments. Individual grade printouts are available upon request.
- Progress reports will be sent home on a regular basis. Progress reports are to be returned with a parent’s signature.
Parents are encouraged to contact the teacher via email () or over the phone (928-649-4409) with any questions or concerns. Parents are also cordially invited to visit and inspect the welding shop and machines, whenever they would like to, just let me know.

These forms are the first assignment and should be completed by filling in the blanks. After all the blanks have been filled in and it has been signed by both the student and a parent or legal guardian, it should be returned no later than _____.

Being enrolled in this class requires the student to be in a welding shop environment and to operate all machines related to the welding program. It is understood that each student will receive proper instruction, both in the use and the correct safety procedures concerning each piece of equipment. The student must assume responsibility for following all safe practices, and we therefore ask that the student subscribe to the following safety pledge.
