Essay (Extra Credit)
Farming methods and technology are constantly changing. In a one-paragraph essay, describe some of the changes that have affected farming in the United States over the years.
Possible Answer:
New inventions such as iron plows, reapers, threshers, and combines have allowed farmers to grow and harvest crops faster and more easily. Other technologies such as fertilizers, airplanes, computers, and chemicals to kill weeds and insects have also helped farmers grow larger crops. All of these changes have helped farmers raise more crops on each acre of land and plant crops on more land. As a result, most farms in the United States today are much larger than they were in the past, require fewer workers, and produce larger crops.
