It isthevisionoftheReadingPublicSchoolstoinstilla joyoflearningbyinspiring,engagingandsupportingouryouthtobecometheinnovativeleadersoftomorrow.Wewillaccomplishourvisionbyfocusingona fewkeystrategicinitiativesthatleadtoa meaningfuland relevantcurriculum,innovativeinstructionalpractices,stronganalysisandthoughtfuldialogueaboutevidence,a collaborativeandteam approachtolearningandteaching,anda safeandnurturinglearningenvironment.Theoverallphysicalandbehavioralwell-beingofour childrenwillbeourtoppriorityasstudentswillnotlearniftheyarenotphysicallyandpsychologicallysafe. Inaddition,thispastyear,theReadingPublicSchools participatedin theDepartmentof Elementaryand SecondaryEducation Planning forSuccessProcess.Thisprocessgaveadministratorsguidance andsupporton how tocreateactionplans thatwerealignedtothefivedistrictgoals.

The actionplanningprocessconsistsof doing ananalysisof strengths,weaknesses,opportunities,andthreats todistrictinitiatives. The ActionPlanslisted in this documentcontain threemajorareas:monitoringprogress (withactionsteps),earlyevidenceof change benchmarks,andresourcesto supporttheimplementation.

Theendresultof theprocessresultedin the developmentofa districtactionplanand monitoring/publicreporting process.Theprocessand activitiesused todevelopthedistrictactionplanresulted inthefollowing:

  • Buildadistrictactionplanfortheyearwithbothprocessandearlyevidenceofchangebenchmarksforthedistrict’s initiatives
  • Buildamonitoringplan to supportdistrictmonitoring andpublic reportingof progress
  • Supportthelearning of theDistrictLeadershipTeam(DLT) andstrengthentheteam’sskills andprocessesinplanimplementationandmonitoring

Thisproject connectstoexistingdistrict work byadvancingthedistrict’s implementationplanningforstrategic initiativesunderwayand committedtoinSY14-16.Throughthis planning,districtleaderswillidentify benchmarksthat willassisttheminmonitoringandreportingon boththeprogressandimpactofinitiativesas they areimplementedthroughouttheyear.

Thisproject alsosupports theDLT’s own capacitybuilding goalforthe2014-16schoolyears.Thisgoal focuses onadvancingthelearning and capacitybuildingoftheteamasaprofessional learningcommunity.Theproject supportsthisgoalintwoways:byintroducingactionplanningasasystemthat promotescommunicationand supportsacultureofshared ownership andresponsibility,andbyusingacollaborativeapproachandprotocolsin thedevelopmentof theactionplanitself.

Duringthe2014-16schoolyears,theDistrictLeadership TeamwillsuccessfullyimplementtheMulti- TieredSystemofSupportStructureateachschoolasmeasuredbyadecreaseinthefollowing data points: tardiness,officedisciplinereferrals,numberofstudentswhohave10ormoreabsencesina schoolyear,andtheachievementgapbetween the highneedssubgroup andtheaggregatesubgroup onstandardizedassessmentsandCommonmeasures. Inaddition, ifsuccessfullyimplemented,there willbeanincreaseinouraccuracyinidentifyingstudentswithspecialneeds,asmeasuredbythereferral datafromSSTandtheutilizationofregulareducationinitiativestosupportstudentspriortoaneedfor specialeducationtesting(MTSSinterventions,SST,interventionsupport, etc.). Moreover,wewillsee animprovementinthebehavioralhealthofallstudentsasmeasuredbytheYouthRiskBehaviorSurvey, EarlyWarningIndicatorSystem,andotherlocallydeterminedmeasures. Finally, wewillmeasurethe effectivenessof ourimplementationbyusingtheTieredFidelityInstrument(TFI).
