Chess

It has been a very successful season for the St. Andrew’s budding chess players, bringing 2 trophies to the school.

William Hackett, Ethan Lee, Finn Ellingboe, Amelie Kearney, Christopher Evans-Garrett and Elliot Manks were all on the team that wonthe Leinster Primary Schools’ Chess League.

Within a week of that success, the team went on to win the Malahide Credit Union Cup. The winning team was captained by William Hackett, with Ethan Lee, Amelie Kearney and Christopher Evans-Garrett.

Three other teams from St. Andrew’s competed in the Malahide Credit Union Cup competition. Players involved were Ammanuvel Alias, Paul Tracey, Cormac Eason, Michael Milburn, Niall Kearney, Hugh Given, Lucus Skoubo-Keely, Rhys McKeaney, James Spedding and Andrew Thornes.

Last Friday night, Malahide, captained by Finn with William and Amelie also on the team, won the Dublin Community Games (U13) Chess competition.

Chess is now finished for the year. A big thank you to Tom O’Sullivan our chess coach. At the last lesson Tom presented the prizes for 2015;

Congratulations to Michael Milburn who was selected to play with the Malahide Rugby teamduring half time in Donnybrook Stadium during the Ireland/England Legend’s Match.

In Irish Dancing news,trophies and medals were presented to Ryan Canny, Eve Canny, Emma Taylor, Natalia De Castro, Niamh Coleman, Sasha Kennedy Kambic and Caitlin Wallaceat the recent Trophies and Medals day.

World Book Day was celebrated on March 5TH.Everyone was given a book voucher to redeem against a book. 6th Class dressed up as their favourite character from a book.

ABCCongratulations to Sarah O’Flaherty who represented the school in the Eason’s Spelling Bee last week.

Congratulations to James Martin who is the top goal scorer for Portmarnock F.C. Congratulations to Matthew Clarke who was recently man of the match in a game against Bective.

At the Table Tennis awards in the Parish Centre,Oliver Jeffrey-Carrick, Harry Bryan,

DanielCrampton and Beth Deacon all won cups in their age group. Congratulations to everyone else who won medals on the night.

Malahide Hockey Club awards for 2014/5; Ruth Hildebrand, 5th Class,

Juliette Evans-Garrett, 4th Class, and Mia O’Neill, 2nd Class all won Player of the year in their age group. Beatrice NiChonghaile, 2nd Class won most improved player.

Well done to Finn Walker, Juliette Evans-Garrett, Adam Gardiner, Niamh Coleman, Cian Lynch,Christopher Evans-Garrett, Chloe Bryan, Natalya de Castro, Eve Canny, Finn Ellingboe, and Cory O’Chonghaileon a fantastic production of The Wizard of Oz.

Non uniform dayon Friday 13th March was a St. Patrick’s Day theme. Well done everyone on some fantastic costumes and for turning the school green!

SeachtainnaGaeilge

We celebrated SeachtainnaGaeilge in St. Andrew’s N.S. between 1-17th March. All the children made great efforts to speak Irish in their classes and around the school. The teachers arranged lots of activities and prizes were awarded to the children. SeachtainnaGaeilge was beneficial and fun for all!!

Around the Classes

Junior Infantshave been busy in the garden! Having successfully grown daffodils they are now growing cress. They have also been busy with their Easter Bunnies.

Senior Infants and 1st Class; Malahide Tennis Club has formed a partnership with Parks

Tennis Ireland,Tennis Ireland and Fingal Council to try to give all children in Malahide an opportunity to take part in basic tennis sessions in their school.Senior Infants and 1st Class have just completed an 8 week tennis course. On Monday 23rd they played in the Tennis club and parents were invited to watch.

Senior Infantshave just performed ‘The Little Red Hen’ to family and friends. Fantastic performance Senior Infants!

1st Class had fun doing a ‘Get Smart Media Workshop’. They used ipads to create movies about people who help us. They then enjoyed watching each other’s movies. Well done 1st Class.

2nd Class are having fun with subtraction and renaming. Maths is their favourite subject at the moment.

3rd Class have just said good bye to student teacher Ms. Mc Mahon. They have been making clay pot in art class.

4th Class were in Malahide Library during SeachtainnaGaeilge week for a craft session in Irish. They made fantastic plates using seanfhocail. They also took part in the ‘Get Smart Media Workshop’ .

5th Class went on a fantastic day out organised by

Laureate nanÓg/Children’s Books Ireland (CBI) and Fingal Libraries.

Once Upon A Place Steam Train storytelling tour, from

Connolly Station Dublin – Drogheda and return. Eoin Colfer, SeosamhO’Maolalaí, Nicola Pierce, OisínMcGann, Rod Smith and Debbie Thomas were all on the train telling stories.

6th Class visited the historic Glasnevin Cemetery.
