APPLICATION PROCESS

2017-18 Academic Year

SCHOLARSHIP ELIGIBILITY

  • Must be a graduating senior of Theodore Roosevelt High School in Fresno, California or continuing Reyes Scholar.
  • Must be accepted and enrolled as an undergraduate student at a 2-year or 4-year institution.
  • Must be of a first generation in family to go to college and/or from an underserved community.
  • Must have a 3.0/4.0 or higher cumulative GPA. Please attach unofficial transcript.
  • Must be enrolled as a full time student for fall 2017 term.
  • Must provide area of interest of study (teacher education, business, health science, political science, communications, computer science, music, etc.).
  • Must complete a minimum 40 hours of community service or related service before 2017 scholarship disbursement.

HOW TO APPLY

  • Must complete and sign the attached application.
  • Must complete a 250 word essay describing goals and what inspires you to go to college.
  • Must provide one (1) letter of recommendation from a school official, mentor, pastor, or employment supervisor who will support your candidacy for this scholarship. Family members are not allowed to write letters.Please address letter to “Reyes Scholarship Selection Committee.”
  • Applications must be postmarked by Friday,April 14, 2017.

GENERAL INFORMATION

  • Awards will range from $500 - $1000 for the 2017-18 academic year.
  • Applications will be screened by a selection committee. Finalists will be scheduled for an interview to be held in the Spring.Final selection will be contacted by May 30, 2017.
  • Winning Scholar(s) will be expected to attend a Scholarship Banquet – Date TBD, and submit grad photo to the Education & Leadership Foundation c/o the Reyes Scholarship.
  • Winning Scholars will be recognized at the RHS Theo Awards in June 2017.
  • Winning Scholars will also be offered a mentor for guidance in their first year of college.
