Mrs. Sasser’s Class

November 3-7, 2014

This week we are learning about the United States Symbols and elections. If you have any books on this topic, please send them in to share with the class. Skills/activities we will be working on this week will include those listed below.

Language Arts:

*reading many United States Symbols themed books.

*Verbally calling letters Aa-Zz with sounds using the website: www.starfall.com and www.youtube.com in search bar type: Have fun teaching – Alphabet Song

Please use this at home. You and your child will love it! Starfall is a phonics based program we use at school. The “You tube” site covers all subject areas when you type in the subject. Upper grades will enjoy it as well!

Sight Words: Please work with your child on the selected sight words. The words for November are:

*Please practice these words every night. I am testing them.

Math: Numbers and sets 0-20

* numbers 0-20 – recognition and sets

*calendar skills

*ordinal positions

Social Studies-Elections/U.S. Symbols

We will learn about simple rules of voting. We will also study the United States symbols and what they stand for. Ex. American Bald Eagle, Statue of Liberty,

Liberty Bell, American Flag, the Capitol, Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, and the White House,

We are learning about Halloween traditions in America. We will focus on safety.

*Please send in a water bottle and a snack every day!
