Introduction
This essay will deal with the following issues:
Issue #1: Darius and Tom have been in conflict for several weeks over how to approach the design of a critical piece of the product.
Issue #2: John and Julie are so disillusioned that they are job hunting, but each has unique skills that you do not wish to lose.
Issue #3: Jinsoo tends to isolate himself when there is conflict, which decreases his productivity.
Issue #4: Tom believes that the rest of the team is cutting him out of the picture because of his age and lack of interest in using Google to create workspaces where everyone can brainstorm. Tom would rather just talk about his ideas. I was also briefed by the general manager, who shared that the former leader had been fired due to unethical practices such as taking bribes from vendors. However, the team members didn't know that and really liked the former leader; they are angry that he is gone. Using my new knowledge of multicultural teams and communication, the change process, decision making, and ethics, write an action plan to get this team back on track. This paper should be supported by your readings and must provide specific steps based on this knowledge. Cite sources, etc. Remember–whenever you write a paper in a course, your task is to show that you understand the material you are learning, that you can apply it to specific situations, and that you can think critically and creatively in new situations. The action plan for the health team will be in three steps. First, I will begin with some background to my role in this team leading process.
Team Leader’s Role
The key roles and functions of a Team Leader’s role according to the Harvard Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics (2016) are: hiring, promotions, reassignments, position classification and grading, salary determination, performance appraisal reviews and processing, awards reviews and processing, personnel data entry and records maintenance, consultation and advisory services to management and employees include conduct problems and performance problems, policy development, technical policy interpretation, work permitting immigration Visa program, benefits including health care insurance, life insurance, disability insurance, retirement, voluntary accidental death and dismemberment insurance, leave transfer program, tuition assistance program, training opportunities and combined federal campaign, employee assistance referral and workers’ compensation.
Managing Compensation of the Health Team
Although the previous Manager took bribes and was rightfully fired for doing so, the issue of the compensation that the former Manager was receiving from the organization probably was his motivation for his actions.
By fairly compensating my health care team and not only myself as Team Leader, I should be able to better manage the group who will help to launch this new diabetes product. The occupation that an employee is in will also determine the level of compensation that an employee would receive.
All of these main factors of education, experience and occupational type play a role in the compensation levels that I would provide for my health care team so that will comply with my instructions as Team Leader.
Issue #1
Dealing with Darius and Tom, there will need to be a team meeting with just the two of them that is led by me the Team Leader. Darius and Tom are going to have to come to some agreement on the issues that are at hand for the critical piece of the diabetes product. Once Darius and Tom have an opportunity to work through the conflict with a mutually objective third-party such as me as their Team Leader who will not take sides on the issue, however just allow Darius and Tom to work through their conflict, the goal will be to reach a mutually satisfying compromise on the critical piece of the diabetes product that will be a sufficient solution for both Darius and Tom. At the outset of the meeting, this agenda to the meeting will be clearly outlined and clearly stated to both Darius and Tom. Neither one of them is not going to win completely noris overrun the other person – what will happen that they will agree to disagree and a compromise to their opposing views will be the desired outcome to resolve the solution to the specific diabetes product.
Issue #2
John and Julie are so disillusioned that they are job hunting, but each has unique skills that you do not wish to lose.As a Team Leader, I will set up a specific meeting with John and Julie to openly discuss their job dissatisfaction in general and with this new diabetes product. I will openly find out from John and Julie what other jobs they are looking for and the characteristics of these jobs that they enjoy and would like to have implemented with their existing job. Perhaps it is completely possible that their job descriptions can be redesigned to better satisfy the overall job satisfaction of both John and Julie so that they will remain with the company network, as well as keep working on the new diabetes product project.
Issue #3
Jinsoo tends to isolate himself when there is conflict, which decreases his productivity. As a Team Leader what I would recommend to Jinsoo is that he goes to the Company Counsellor in order to discuss his personal problems revolving around how he deals with conflict with the aim of increasing his productivity. I will also keep my door open for Jinsoo and me to have private conversations concerning his feelings around conflict and how I could be of help as a Team Leader in order to help Jinsoo feel more comfortable with any problems that will and could arise with the new diabetes product project.
Issue #4
Tom believes that the rest of the team is cutting him out of the picture because of his age and lack of interest in using Google to create workspaces where everyone can brainstorm. Tom would rather just talk about his ideas. Personally, as a Team Leader I respect Tom’s opinion. If Tom does not feel comfortable using Google to create workspaces this is completely understandable. I would hire an intern from a local university and/or college to work with Tom to teach him in particular about how to use Google to create workspaces. Tom needs to be more flexible and adaptable towards how the work world is changing despite his age and the reason why he is most likely coming across as resistance to the change of the work world is because he does not know how to use Google to do his work. I would be certain as a Team Leader that once Tom is fully aware of how to use Google to create workspaces and is set aside for a brief time period of approximately two weeks to learn to use these online programs, he can then be reintegrated back into the team of workers focused on the new diabetes product in order to complete the project with the rest of the team.
Conclusion
This Action Plan for the Health Team has demonstrated how by focusing and attacking in a kind way each of the problems at hand by the Team Leader, myself, amenable solutions can be found for each of the proposed four issues mentioned above and the entire team can be reinstated to work well together once again.
