WANTED POSTERS
They are scattered on a kitchen table. HAWKINS looks at one. Then he closes his eyes and concentrates.
HAWKINS
Barney Allen is holed up in Denver. He’s at 1329 Richardson Road.
SYBIL takes a bite from a bonbon while she writes down Hawkins’s information on a laptop. Dover sits and watches them.
SYBIL
So much for that drug dealer.
Hawkins looks at another poster. He closes his eye and concen-trates.
HAWKINS
Thomas Lee . . .
Hawkins opens his eyes and yells. He shudders.
HAWKINS
Oh, my God!
DOVER
Oh, no! Another dead body?
HAWKINS
At the bottom of the Colorado River!
Crystal grabs the Delphi Crystal on the table. She aims it at Hawkins, and it shines a beam on him.
SYBIL
Let the crystal’s soothing power make you forget that dreadful image, Mr. Hawkins.
Hawkins moans in delight. The crystal stops shining its beam.
Sybil sets it back down on the table. Hawkins sighs and rubs his eyes.

HAWKINS
He must have pissed off someone
very high in the crime syndicate.
DOVER
Cement blocks?
HAWKINS
Oh, yeah.
SYBIL
Quite the shame. After all, Grand Junction does use the Colorado River for its drinking water.
HAWKINS
So does that mean the fishermen
who catch the fish in the mighty Colorado are cannibals? Because the fish definitely ate away at Lee’s body.
DEBRA
(grossed out)
Harry, please.
SYBIL
Yes. It shall be best for you to resume your tracking duties.
Then the crystal glows.
HAWKINS
I don’t think so, Sybil.
Sybil holds it up for all of them to see. The crystal shows the SUPERIMPOSED IMAGE of
A HANDWRITTEN NOTE
The writing on it reads: MR. HAWKINS AND MISS DOVER SHALL APPEAR AT THE RIVER JUNCTION TONIGHT
SYBIL (V.O.)
The river junction?

SYBIL, HAWKINS, AND DOVER
The crystal stops glowing, and she sets it down.
SYBIL
Only one Zodiac Killer would appear there. The one born under the Aquarius sign.
DOVER
Two rivers coming together.
HAWKINS
Aquarius being the water sign.
SYBIL
Actually, Aquarius is an air sign. But he is the water carrier.
DOVER
Looks like tonight is the start of the Age of Aquarius.
SYBIL
Yes. When chaos finally gives way to order.
HAWKINS AND DOVER
The heroes fly over the desert. It is nighttime.
HAWKINS
You talk to your mother recently?
DOVER
Yeah. She still thinks that I became Sybil’s secretary.
HAWKINS
(laughs)
That’s rich. My parents think that I became her chauffeur.
They both laugh. Then they sigh.

DOVER
I dread facing her.
HAWKINS
I know the feeling. How do you explain to your parents that
you became better looking after
you turned into a super-hero?
DOVER
And that you became a super-hero only after you got shot?
HAWKINS
We can’t keep dodging them forever.
I know Mom and Dad will want to visit me in the summer.
DOVER
My mother will want me home for Thanksgiving and Christmas.
HAWKINS
Same here. It’s bad enough avoiding your friends, but to ignore your family . . .
DOVER
Somehow I don’t think Wonder Woman and Superman had this problem.
HAWKINS
What are we going to do, Debra?
DOVER
I wish I knew, Harry. All we can do is hope for the best.
HAWKINS
Like wishing that all the Zodiac
Killers would just turn themselves
in? Somehow I don’t think that
will happen.

DOVER
Damn the Androgyne to hell.
HAWKINS
And here is the strangest part
in all of this.
DOVER
Oh, this should be interesting.
What?
HAWKINS
That this should be happening in Grand Junction. I can understand if this was happening in New York, Los Angeles, even in Denver. But Grand Junction?
DOVER
Well, supposedly this area is
haunted by the ghosts of Native
Americans buried here. Maybe
the spiritual energies attracted
the Androgyne.
HAWKINS
My dad heard that story, too. He told me that it really became popular after the Poltergeist movies came out.
DOVER
That was the major plot of the first movie, wasn’t it?
HAWKINS
Yep. So why did the Androgyne come here?
DOVER
Maybe he/she has family here.
HAWKINS
First, let’s refer to the Androgyne as a he. That he/she thing is

HAWKINS (CONT’D)
really getting on my nerves.
DOVER
All right.
HAWKINS
Let’s say that he does have family here. The Zodiac Killers might have killed his
relatives. Why would he risk
that happening?
DOVER Maybe he doesn’t like his
family? And wants to see them
dead?
HAWKINS
Okay, that’s a possibility.
But why would he live in GJ and risk getting killed himself?
His pheromones and lion powers didn’t save him from us.
DOVER
Overconfidence?
HAWKINS
That only goes so far. I wouldn’t be battling the Zodiac Killers if I didn’t have to.
DOVER
Uh, we are battling the Zodiac Killers.
HAWKINS
Because we’re destined to do that.
DOVER
I’m not so sure. We only have Sybil’s word for that. For all
we know, she could be making up

DOVER (CONT’D)
those prophecies.
HAWKINS
Quiet, Debra. She might be listening in.
SYBIL
She sits on the sofa and looks into the crystal. It shows the SUPERIMPOSED IMAGES of the heroes in flight. Sybil eats another bonbon.
SYBIL
I see that I shall need to
create more quantities of the
powder of suggestion.
RESUME HAWKINS AND DOVER
DOVER
Let her listen. What’s she going to do to us?
HAWKINS
Still . . .
DOVER
She knows the only reason we’re helping her is to keep our friends from being hurt by the Zodiac Killers.
HAWKINS
And because we need to be exposed to the crystal’s
healing powers every week.
DOVER Well, there’s also that.
(with an edge)
If what she told us was true.
HAWKINS I believe her. Don’t you?

DOVER
I want to. But this situation is
so bizarre that I don’t know what to believe anymore.
HAWKINS
This is just a thought, but it
sounds like you may be suffering from burnout. After all, we did capture seven Zodiac Killers.
DOVER Could be. But I would think that you would suffer from that before I would. After all, I’m not the one seeing visions of dead people.
HAWKINS
But Sybil soothes me with the crystal’s powers every time I
see a corpse. That would enable me to avoid burnout better than you.
DOVER
Hmm. That’s true.
Hawkins looks to the side.
HAWKINS
Keep a sharp lookout. We’re at the river junction.
THE RIVER JUNCTION
The Colorado and GunnisonRivers merge together at this inter-section. The HAWK and DOVE fly over the rivers in circles.
DOVER (V.O.) Well, the view is pretty, anyway.
HAWKINS (V.O.)
I’m getting tired. Let’s take a break.

The birds land. Then they MORPH into Hawkins and Dover. They sit down.
DOVER
I never thought you would get tired of flying.
HAWKINS
Me neither. Maybe I am suffering from burnout.
DOVER
Harry, do you ever have
nightmares?
HAWKINS Sure. Especially after we gained our powers.
DOVER
Same here. But mine are more about children.
HAWKINS
Children?
DOVER
My children. I mean, the ones I have in the future.
HAWKINS
What kind of nightmares do you have?
DOVER That they’re not completely human. They’re always born as these bizarre, half-bird
creatures.
HAWKINS
I take it that you didn’t lay any eggs in your nightmares.
Dover laughs and playfully punches his arm.

DOVER
I wish. I always spend hours in the delivery room. And when I do give birth, the half-birds pluck out the doctors and nurses’ eyes with their beaks.
HAWKINS
(shudders)
That is gruesome. I never dream about having kids. Even when I was just plain old Harry. I guess I’m not ready to settle down yet.
DOVER
I dreamed a lot about giving birth before I got my powers. I think it’s a girl thing. My friends told me that they do the same thing.
HAWKINS
None of my friends dreamt about giving birth. Of course, they are all guys.
The heroes laugh. Then Hawkins stands up.
HAWKINS (CONT’D)
Let’s go home. There’s nothing happening out here, and we fulfilled Sybil’s latest prophecy.
He helps her up.
DOVER
Let’s wait a few more minutes.
I don’t think we’re out here for nothing.
Hawkins gives her a puzzled look.

HAWKINS
I thought you didn’t believe in Sybil’s prophecies.
DOVER
I don’t know if they really are prophecies. They might be. Then again, maybe it’s Sybil who’s behind all of this.
SYBIL
She eats a bonbon and stares at the crystal. The SUPERIMPOSED IMAGES of Hawkins and Dover appear in it.
SYBIL
Oh, this sounds intriguing.
DOVER
The crystal boosts our bodies with its healing powers, right?
HAWKINS
Right.
DOVER
And she’s been exposed to it for decades.
HAWKINS
Maybe longer. From what she told us.
DOVER
So what if the crystal gave her magic powers? Even more than she thinks she has.
Sybil ponders Dover’s words.
DOVER (CONT’D)
What if she has all kinds of psychic powers like telepathic mind control and telekinesis?

DOVER (CONT’D)
And they act on her need to find the alchemists?
HAWKINS AND DOVER
DOVER
Suppose her subconscious mind is seeking out the Androgynes of the world? And her psychic powers make them act the way she thinks they do in alchemy lore? What if she is really supplying them with the ingredients to the Zodiac Elixirs? What if she is causing all this mayhem?
SYBIL (V.O.)
That is the most ridiculous thing that I ever heard, Miss Dover.
DOVER
I think anything is possible when it comes to alchemy, Sybil. After all, if there’s a God in Heaven and a devil in Hell, then everything else in between can be real.
SYBIL (V.O.)
I have been battling alchemists for over a century. They are the evil doers, not me.
DOVER
(a beat, ponders)
We’ll see.
A boulder crashes next to the heroes. They react.
HAWKINS
Zodiac Killer!

The heroes take to the air. As they do, they are almost hit by energy blasts. They sound like ARROWS IN FLIGHT.
HAWKINS (CONT’D)
Whoa!
DOVER
Hey!
They do various flying tricks to avoid being hit.
HAWKINS
Debra! Look over there!
He points to the side. She looks in that direction.
DARK HORSE
He is dressed in a ninja’s black costume. He fires the energy blasts into the air. More sounds of ARROWS IN FLIGHT.
DARK HORSE
Why are those birds flying flying like that? I can’t hit them!
He stops firing his blasts. Then he runs away at a horse’s speed.
HAWKINS AND DOVER
They fly after the off-camera villain.
HAWKINS
He’s not in the water! I don’t think he’s the Aquarius Killer!
DOVER
Did you hear those sounds?
HAWKINS
Sounds?
Hawkins looks at Dover.

DOVER
Yeah! When the energy blasts whizzed past us! They sounded like arrows after they’ve been released from a bow!
HAWKINS
A bow? And arrows?
DOVER
He’s the Sagittarius Killer, Harry! He’s running as fast as a horse! And Sagittarius is the sign of the centaur!
HAWKINS
The half-man, half-horse creature!
DOVER
And Sagittarius is also the sign of the archer!
HAWKINS
But what’s he doing out here?
They fly over a
DEER
It lies dead on its side, but it doesn’t have any wounds.
DOVER (V.O.)
That deer!
RESUME HAWKINS AND DOVER IN FLIGHT
DOVER
It wasn’t bleeding! And it’s too far for it to have been hit by a car!
HAWKINS
So what does it all mean?

DOVER
I think this guy is hunting!
HAWKINS
Could be! Or maybe he’s practicing! Learning how to use his powers!
DOVER
In any event, he’s outrunning us!
DARK HORSE
He runs at a horse’s speed. He keeps looking behind him as he runs. He emits an energy blast behind him.
INTERCUT – HAWKINS WITH DOVER AND DARK HORSE
The heroes avoid the energy blast. He sends another one. They avoid that one--barely. He keeps running and fires another one behind him. The heroes fly upward.
DARK HORSE
He is about to fire another blast behind him when he trips. As he falls, his hand projects the energy blast to his chest. He hits the ground. Then he yells in agony before he dies. Dover and Hawkins land near him.
DOVER
Is he--?
Hawkins bends down and checks Dark Horse’s pulse. After 30 seconds, he lets go of the villain’s wrist.
HAWKINS
I couldn’t find a pulse.
DOVER
He must have tripped and hit himself with his own powers.
HAWKINS
Better him than us.

SYBIL (V.O.)
Indeed, Mr. Hawkins. Please leave him there to feed the desert animals. We must do our part to keep the food chain alive. Now come home to some nice fried chicken and mashed potatoes.
SYBIL
She is in the kitchen. The chicken is on a platter next to the stove. The mashed potatoes are in a pot on the stove.
SYBIL
I am almost done with the potatoes. They just need a little more salt.
She holds her ring finger over the potatoes. Then she opens the ring’s setting to reveal a white powder. She drops the powder into the potatoes. Then she closes the setting and lightly pours real salt into the potatoes.
SYBIL (CONT’D)
Perfect.
