The meeting was called to order at 1:15 p.m. by Vice President Bules. There was a quorum present.

Approval of Minutes and Agenda
Angela Bules made the motion to amend the April agenda under New Business to add request for a parliamentarian. The motion to accept the amended agenda was moved and seconded by senators Stout and Wesley. The motion passed. It was moved and seconded to approve the March minutes by senators Perkins and Jaskolski. The motion passed.
Administration Reports
Phill Harris, Vice President for Administration has invited everyone to the Transportation and Parking presentation open house on April 23rd from 4-6 at the Education Conference Center. He also stated Mark Collins is working on short-term parking solutions to address the lost parking behind the Union beginning this summer for the construction of the College of Business. The faculty from the College of Business will be moving into Crane Hall for the duration of the work on the building. VP Harris encourages everyone to use the shuttle from the lot by the baseball fields. They are also looking at options for remote parking on a route coming from South 15th Street.
Mary Petroski, Human Resources representative, discussed the new on-line defensive driving course. It is available to staff at no charge and can be completed in sections, at your convenience. This course is eligible for an insurance deduction upon completion. The ALT (Supervisor) training, which is a series of eight scheduled courses, has 20 participants in this pilot session. Several faculty and administrators on campus are assisting with this training session. Michael Basinger is working on the new employee orientation program for on-line so all UW employees, on campus or not, can access the same information.
Educational Guest Speaker

Old Business
Senator Sanchez reported on the bookstore task force. She stated an RFP will not be going out and the bookstore will remain an independent bookstore. One recommendation was to allow the bookstore to increase their advertising to help meet their goals.
New Business
Senator Bules asked for volunteers for the parliamentarian position. Senator Wiseman volunteered to be the parliamentarian.
Committee Reports
ASUW liaison – Senator Longpre stated a resolution passed that was a recommendation to endorse the bicycle safety committee. Bill 2203 passed for the ASUW endowment that started in 2003 with $291,000 to allocate $100,000 to hire an outside consultant for the planning of Half Acre gym.
Communication Committee – Senator Mathewson had nothing to report.
Compensation Committee – Senator Whitman stated the EAP/Wellness proposal has been submitted by VP Axelson to the President and to the Executive Committee. The proposal includes the survey results and components of wellness.
Senator Jauque Schuman talked about requesting increased vacation time to employees who have 15 years of service. This was discussed at the last brown bag luncheon with President Buchanan. VP Bules asked Senator Schuman to work on a proposal. Senator Schuman will also be working on a proposal concerning health care conversion for retirees where sick leave is converted to pay insurance premiums. The suggested proposal is to extend the conversion from three years to four years.
Credentials & Elections Committee – Senator Jaskolski stated there are 12 seats open with 12 eligible nominations. The committee will be processing the ballots electronically. This will reach as many people as they did with paper ballots last year.
Employee of the Qtr – Senator Wesley reported Kara Enyeart, from Economics and Finance, is the new Employee of the Quarter. The deadline for nominations for Employee of the Second Quarter is June 20th.
Fundraising Committee – Senator Ferrell thanked everyone for their help with the door prizes and cleaning up. She also thanked Senator Hearne and Senator Waggener for all their work on the event. Staff Recognition Day was a success with possibly over 600 staff attending.
Recognition Committee – Senator Perkins stated how the committee pre-sold raffle tickets this year so staff off-campus could purchase tickets. The raffle made $459. Senator Perkins thanked Senator Tod Scott for his recycling efforts.
President’s Report
Please give Lou Ann a call if you have not confirmed you are attending the retreat scheduled for May 21st. An agenda will be sent out in the next few weeks. New senators are invited as well as senators who will be leaving the end of June.
