Procedures: / :  Start the lesson off by discussing the definition of a “hero.”
The quality, which makes a hero who he is. Its not just courage and intelligence that define a hero, but also compassion.
Allow the students to brainstorm a list of names of who they believe to be a hero and why. Record their responses on the board as a group activity.
:  Allow the students time to explore the site, My Hero.

:  Explain that each student will select a hero from among his family, family friends, or community. Emphasize that one doesn't have to be famous to be a hero.
:  Give each student the attached “Hero Information Sheet” and discuss the requirements of the assignment. Select a due date for students to bring back their photos and research information (“Hero Information Sheet”) about their hero.
:  On the day information and pictures are due, alternate turns at the scanner scanning pictures brought for use in the presentations if needed.
Students use the digital camera to take pictures of each other to be used on the "author slide" of their presentations. Each student should take one picture, and pose for one picture.
:  Discuss organization of their information for presentation using the information sheet as a guide. Have students plan their presentations before going to the computer lab.
Give each student a copy of the attached rubric so they are clear on the requirements of their presentation.
:  As a whole group review some of the basic steps for using Microsoft PowerPoint. Discuss inserting new slides, slide designs and templates, typing text and inserting pictures.
:  After all information is typed in and all pictures are added, review with students how to add sounds and edit transitions.
:  Allow students to pair up with a classmate to review and edit their presentations together.
:  Allow class time for students to present their slideshows to the class. Use the evaluation rubric (attached) to grade presentations as they are presented.
