SEJE UPDATE FOR

MAY 2014

GREETINGS EVERYONE: Praise Jesus who is faithful as surly as the sun rises and sets. Who is the same yesterday, today and forever! (1Thes5:24)

May 6th marked the start of school after the Easter break. God has kept the children well and they have all safely returned. Almost all of the students performed exceptionally well with their exams that they completed before school closed, for the break. There were only two students that didn’t pass but the rest did quite well.

Back to class.

Near the end of the month they began harvesting the beans on the farm. Unfortunately due to the lack of consistent and abundant rains that normally fall at this time, they produced only a small harvest of about 20 tins. However the tomatoes fared better this time than the last time, so we celebrate that.

Currently they are doing the second weeding of the farms. They have to be done in a timely fashion after the rain falls, so the earth is soft enough to pull the weeds out by the roots. Otherwise it would be futile work.

Corn and beans alternating

I recently found out that they strategically plant beans, alternating with corn because of the symbiotic relationship they have. Corn benefits from the nitrate nutrients that the beans produce and the beans use the stock of the corn to support their upward growth by attaching vines to stabilize them. The beans also are protected from the scorching African sun, by the shade of the towering corn.

Pastor Sylvester and Phoebe are enjoying their new life together and are very thankful for all the love and support they received to make their wedding such a memorable and beautiful day. They were overwhelmed at the generosity the community as shown with the gifts they have given. Every need within their home, has been well taken care of! We thank God for all He has done!

Remembering with gratitude, all that the Lord has joined together!
