Level 6 ESL Home Remedies Project
What are some common everyday illnesses or health problems? Besides going to the doctor, what are cures (home remedies) that people can do at home, and therefore save time and money?
For this project, you will choose one common health problem, write a paragraph about a home remedy that can be used to cure the symptoms of the illness, and make a short video.
Step 1: Choose an everyday health problem from the class list.
Step 2: Answer the questions below in note form:
· What can cause this problem?
· What is a home remedy for this problem? (The remedy can be something you have tried before yourself to feel better, a family cure, a traditional or cultural cure from your country, or a treatment you find on the internet or somewhere else). What can a person with this health problem do? What ingredients are used? What are the instructions? What are special exercises, steps, precautions, etc.?
· What is the source (country, family, personal, etc.)?
Examples:
Health Problem: Bad Breath
Causes: Upset stomach, foods eaten, tooth decay, and real illness are all expressed in your breath.
Remedy 1:
Source: USA
Ingredients: Parsley
Instructions: Chew fresh parsley if the cause is upset stomach or food you have eaten. Why do you think they put it on your plate at restaurants?!? By the way, this is the main ingredient in those breath capsules you can buy at the drug store(the only difference is they extract the oil).
Remedy 2:
Source: South Africa
Ingredients: tropical fruit named paw paw (papaya)
Instructions: Cut paw paw open, scoop out seeds, and cut into wedges or bite-size cubes. Eat at least two or three dessert bowls full of the fruit daily. This is really very good for cleaning the stomach which is often the real cause of bad breath. Make this part of your daily diet, and I guarantee it will stop bad breath.
Remedy 3:
Source: USA
Ingredients: Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2), Baking Soda (Sodium Bicarbonate), Salt, Water (Preferably Purified), Tongue scraper
Instructions: Mix one part water with one part peroxide. You can find peroxide in every pharmacy. Add a pinch of salt and a pinch of baking soda so that it is not very salty but you can still taste the salt. This is your mouth wash. You can add some essential oil or peppermint for taste but it is not necessary. Scrape your tongue with the tongue scraper or brush it with a tooth brush. Don't brush too hard! Then swish and gargle with the mouthwash you made above for a couple of minutes. Repeat twice per day or as needed. You will never have to buy mouthwash again.
Remedy 4:
Source: USA
Ingredients: honey and fresh-squeezed lemon juice
Instructions: In the morning and at night before bed take the juice of one fresh-squeezed lemon and mix with a little honey to taste and drink. Besides the absence of bad breath, you will also notice that you will feel more energized and rejuvenated. For extra punch, may also add cinnamon or cayenne powder.
Remedy 5:
Source: USA
Ingredients: Listerine, big tongue cleaner, toothpaste
Instructions: The bad breath is on your tongue. First rinse your mouth with Listerene to break up particles. Use a big tongue cleaner to get all of the particles off your tongue. The tongue cleaner looks like an eye drop, and you can buy it at Target. Brush your teeth. Use tongue cleaner again. Rinse with Listerine. You must do it in that order. Keep your tongue cleaner on you at all times. I guarantee you will wake up with no more bad breath after two days. This worked for me.

Cure Bad Breath with a Home Remedy
Halitosis, also known as bad breath, is an everyday health problem that can be embarrassing but is easily and inexpensively cured at home. Some causes of bad breath can be upset stomach, foods eaten, tooth decay, and real illness, such as stomach ulcers or tumors. This is one home remedy from the USA. The ingredients and tools you need are hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), baking soda (sodium bicarbonate), salt, water (preferably purified), and a tongue scraper. First, mix one part water with one part peroxide.
