Title:Instructor (ESOL-English for Speakers of Other Languages)

ESOL instructors at North Shore Community Action Programs promote the learning and growth of all learners through ethical, culturally proficient, skilled and collaborative practice.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support the learning and growth of all students by providing high-quality and coherent ESOL instruction that promotes English language development and college and career readiness
- Design effective and rigorous standards-based instruction consisting of well-structured lessons and units with authentic and meaningful assessments and measurable outcomes.
- Use a variety of instructional practices that reflect high expectations for all students; engage all students; develop critical thinking; and are personalized to accommodate diverse learning styles, needs, interests and levels of readiness
- Analyze student performance and growth data and use this data to improve instruction and determine appropriate targeted student interventions
- Provide students with constructive feedback on an ongoing basis
- Participate in collaborative curriculum development, bi-monthly staff meetings and continuous improvement planning process
- Maintain accurate records of student data including attendance, goals met, test scores, etc. and support student persistence
- Complete required professional development and actively pursue additional learning opportunities to improve quality of practice and build expertise
- Secure and maintain certification for standardized assessment administration and scoring
Non Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Represent Adult Education department on NSCAP committees and special projects as they arise
- In consultation with the Director of Adult Education and Workforce Development, experienced and/or veteran ESOL instructors may be asked to take on additional leadership roles such as: Curriculum Specialist, Lead Instructor, Education and Career Advisor, etc.

Education/qualification requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree and ESOL teaching experience required; Master’s degree and/or teaching license/certificate preferred
- Experience working with a socio-economically diverse/multi-cultural/multi-lingual population
- Demonstrated ability to integrate digital literacy into instruction including use of Google platforms (docs, slides, forms, etc.)
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the components of the English language
- Familiarity with standards-based instruction and curriculum development a plus
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fixtures and furniture. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate with substantial background noise at times.
