The Hawthorne Academy of Health Sciences Student (HAHS)/Parent Commitment Agreement:
- HAHS students will adhere to all CMS rules, regulations and policies, including the CMS Code of Student Conduct. Failure to comply will result in the student returning to their Home School.
- HAHS courses will operate on the CMS Academic Year.
- HAHS students will enroll in a minimum of four courses each semester to include CMS, virtual, and/or CPCC courses.
- HAHS students are expected to attend all assigned classes.
- HAHS students who earn a grade of “D” or fail a CMS or CPCC course during two consecutive semesters will be at risk of forfeiting their eligibility for the HAHS and will return to their assigned Home School.

Hawthorne Academy of Health Sciences
Hawthorne Academy of Health Sciences will include a career academy structure, high school online courses, college dual enrollment coursework, and an accelerated curriculum for advancement in reading and mathematics, a Career and Technical Education program aligned with the region’s economic development, and a strong student support process to ensure future graduates of Hawthorne Academy of Health Sciences are college and career ready. Hawthorne Academy of Health Sciences will be established through a partnership with the National Academy Foundation (NAF) and North Carolina New Schools (NCNS). In addition, students will be provided with career and work-based experiences to make them college and career ready upon graduation.
Hawthorne Academy of Health Sciencesis accepting applications for the 2014-2015 school year in grades 9 and 10. Approximately 150 students will be selected in grades 9 and 10 into the academy during the 2014-2015 school year. Students who are currently enrolled at Hawthorne in grades 11 and 12 will remain at Hawthorne. Hawthorne will continue to serve rising11th and 12th grade students, allowing them to graduate from Hawthorne in succeeding years. These students will have access to the classes taught in the Health Sciences Academy and will be allowed to participate in online classes, dual enrollment courses at Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC), and Honors and Advanced Placement courses. Students enrolled in Hawthorne Academy of Health Sciences will take courses working towards a high school graduation and geared towards the health sciences profession. Students accepted into the program will also be required to enroll in a minimum of four courses per semester including high school and/or college courses. The Hawthorne Academy of Health Sciences will become a full magnet program in approximately two years.
CMS transportation will be provided for all students who are accepted to and attend Hawthorne.
