Title:GOD IS BUILDING SOMETHING
Scripture Text:1 Corinthians 3:9
INTRODUCTION
God wants to create a community of people who follow Him- He wants disciples. Central within His plan for the community is the family and this is the reason why the enemy is always fighting the family. The enemy will do anything he can to disrupt and cause problems in the family.
Points of Discussion:
The community would make people fight for each other – 1 Corinthians 3:9
No building can go up without stones- God needs stones. We are the stones that God needs to build - 1 Peter 2:4-5, 7-10. We are living stones used in God’s building. If we are an isolated stone, we cannot be used in the building.
No single stone can take credit for God’s building- we should not be prideful.
God wants us to be obedient and grounded.
A building must have a location and a design- God’s word is our design as we are being built into a spiritual house.The tower of Babel came down because it was built without a design.
God wants to build one house in the world- all of us to be connected without denominations. He is King of this house 1 Peter 2:7
The cornerstone determines the size and strength of the building- Jesus determines our size and strength because He is the Chief Cornerstone.
The one who makes the stone knows what’s good for the stone- choose to be an obedient stone.
Individual stones may shine, but they don’t go very far- everyone has to play their part.
We are all under construction and this is why we sometimes do things that are contrary.
We are God’s priests- we bring sacrifices to God 1 Peter 2:9. We are to “present our bodies as living sacrifices to God” Romans 12:1
We are not in darkness- we have God’s marvelous light. 1 Peter 2 vs 10- we are now people.
Things we need to know/do
To be a disciple, we have to be disciplined. To be disciplined we have to be obedient and to be obedient we have to be disciplined.
Our disobedience is a function of our indiscipline.The reason God wants us to be His disciples is because He wants us to be disciplined.
Our lives only make meaning when we give other people’s lives meaning.
We should be outward looking and not inward looking- God takes care of the inward.
Connect well with your community and watch God work wonders. Be there to bind the wounds of others.
No root, no fruit- a rootless Christian is a fruitless Christian.
God wants us to be a part of something and not apart from something.
The community must be aligned with God’s plan.
In isolation we lose power, in the congregation,we gain power.
CONCLUSION
God is building something and He needs each of us to be a part of His design. He requires our obedience to be in alignment with His plan in order to accomplish this. Together we are stronger, but in isolation, we are weaker and cannot accomplish much. Each of us need to be connected with our families to build a strong community. When husbands and wives are not in agreement, the family is undone. Stay connected!
