Principal's Message 2012-13

Greetings to students, parents, and community of Concrete High School.

First of all I would like to thank all who participated in the accreditation process last year. I am pleased to announce that Concrete High School is fully accredited for another 6 years!

The teachers are eager to help students reach their full potential by providing meaningful instruction, assignments, and tests. We meet regularly as a teaching staff to discuss what's working, what's not working, and strategies to overcome our challenges. It is a delight to work with students and encourage them to take ownership of their learning.

Likewise, our non-teaching staff stands united to provide services that make our building run smoothly. I greatly appreciate their efforts to transport, feed, clean-up after, offer front office services, and provide instructional support and counseling to our students, plus maintain a clean, functional building and beautiful grounds.

It is very important to us at Concrete High School that we all work together to have not only a safe and nurturing environment but a school that continues to provide an education that meets Washington State's rigorous standards.

As you may know, the state has added to it's graduation requirements. In short, this year'sFreshmen and Sophomores must pass the state tests in Reading, Writing, Algebra 1, Geometry, and Biology.

Juniors and Seniors must pass the state tests in Reading, Writing, and either Algebra 1 or Geometry, but not both. They are required to take a state science test but are not required to pass it.

Remember that the 40 hours of Community Service is an important piece of our graduation requirements. Students are required to have 10 hours per grade level starting in the 9th grade. Please be aware that some activities, such as the "30 Hour Famine", will be allowed way fewer hours than were accepted in the past.

Students, please take ownership of your education. No one else can do it for you. Parents and teachers can provide guidance, but your level of success is completely up to you. Please take it seriously!

One last note, this year is a Levy year. We appreciate the support of our parents and community in the past and look forward to working together with you to make this year's campaign a success.

Thank you again for your support to our school. I value the trust you have placed in us who work at Concrete High School.
