- Plans for Upcoming Meetings
- Dec. 4 meeting will involve discussion of sequencing of sessions, open houses, resource fairs and activities
- Dec. 11 meeting will focus on transfer student orientation
- CONTINUED: Discuss Key Topics and Identify Learning Outcomes
- Student Success (resources, responsibility to access services/support)
- Awareness of Student Success Center, its general purpose and how they might benefit
- Feel they can be successful and articulate personal responsibility for success
- Behavioral Expectations (academic integrity, conduct, alcohol & drugs, Carolinian Creed)
- Believe we will hold them accountable
- Expect a transformative experience as part of the larger Carolina community
- Describe the Carolinian Creed and why we have it
Other Notes: discussion focused on transformative experience, community responsibility – Creed, Code of Conduct, Bystander accountability, etc; positive not punitive
- History/Traditions
- Develop a common understanding of university traditions
Other Notes: currently not a common message about history or traditions; need to package spirit and traditions; experiences only a student at Carolina can have
- Athletics
- Understand football ticket process
- Establish an awareness of the variety of sports we offer
- Greek Life
- Know what it is and how to engage in the process
- Engagement/Involvement (USCConnect, study abroad, undergrad research, etc)
- Identify a few initial ways to connect
- Understand some of the benefits of engagement
- Be aware of our leadership focus
Other Notes: on-campus employment should be encouraged; timing is key - more information can be provided during Welcome Week when students are in a position to act; many ways to connect – opportunities for all students regardless of interest
- Wellness
- Understand student health services available and what is covered as part of student health fee
- Be aware there is a tobacco free campus policy
- Articulate the importance of registration with student disability services if services could possibly be needed
- Dining Services
- Demonstrate an understanding of the options, cost and how to elect options
- Books
- Know the process for reserving books and the various options available
- Carolina Card
- Recognize the card as the official University ID with various functions (access, dining, athletic tickets, etc)
- Have card by the end of Orientation
- Parking & Transportation
- Be aware of the options, cost and how to access them
- Understand transportation around campus
- Technology
- Know where to located computer and software recommendations
- Understand on-campus computing support available (iCare, Helpdesk, Move-In)
- Evening Activities
- Make connections with peers
- Connect with those of similar interests
