Job Description

Job title: Campaign Researcher

Responsible to: Scottish General Secretary

Location: Party Office in Edinburgh

Key purpose: Provide a policy resource for local campaigns in Scotland, and assist with campaigning and communication activities

Specific responsibilities:

1.  Provide policy resource capacityfor stakeholders in Scotland.

2.  Produce campaigning materials for local parties.

3.  Assist with communication between stakeholders in Scotland, including online resource support

4.  Provide accurate, clear, focused briefings and other communications, to tight deadlines for stakeholders in Scotland.

5.  Liaise with others involved in policy development activity both inside and outside the party

6.  Assist with organisation of events for local stakeholders.

7.  Manage database of stakeholder contacts, ensuring appropriate presence and activity is properly represented in Party communications.

8.  Ensure the accuracy and quality of relevant Party publications

9.  Support other Scottish party strategic objectives as required

10.  To encourage, develop and support volunteer involvement in our work.

11.  To carry out any other reasonable task as directed by the Scottish General Secretary

The person will be expected to work flexibly as part of the team. This will include some working in the evenings and at weekends.

Knowledge

Essential

·  Experience of political research.

·  Campaigning inside and/or outside the Labour Party.

·  Relevant academic or work experience in researching complex issues.

·  Experience of handling data.

·  Strong knowledge of the current political situation.

·  Strong knowledge/understanding of the Labour Party and its structures.

·  Knowledge of core Local Government policy issues.

·  Experience and understanding of different communication methods.

Skills/Ability

Essential

·  Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

·  Excellent research skills and ability to write concise, accurate briefing notes quickly.

·  Excellent data analysis skills.

·  Excellent interpersonal skills.

·  Strong initiative, with the ability to initiate projects, and work to very tight deadlines.

·  Ability to work with a wide range of people, including stakeholders across the Party.

·  Ability to work in a fast paced environment.
