PRESIDENT’S UPDATE

2014 Funds raised

·  2014 was a record year with $174,000 raised by fundraising alone. Congratulations to the old executive.

·  A further $70,000 was raised from the Uniform Shop, Canteen and Hall hire.

Science Lab

·  Science Lab costs have increased to $440,000. We’ve asked Government to fund half. Co-funding decision to be made between August and October

·  Thanks for Adi, Alex and Kate for their hard work

·  The science lab will be a flexible space with sliding door so it can be one big room or two smaller ones

·  Potential for a specialist science teacher. Also for Mosman High School science teacher to teach at MPS

·  After school hours the science lab can act as an alternative community space

·  DET allows MPS to have two special programs rooms. Building a science lab won’t prevent MPS from getting a demountable classroom if we need an extra class

·  Fundraising ideas suggested include: tax deductible ‘brick’ donation and private sponsorship

·  P&C to vote on Science Lab proposal at future P&C meeting

TREASURER’S UPDATE

·  Accounts with the auditors

·  Profits down a little in both Canteen and the Uniform shop due to increased costs, as a result we will introduce some minor price rises

·  Looking at Technology spend

·  Ritchies IGA Bridepoint Community Benefit card: request for parents to sign up, every time you shop IGA will donate money to MPS

SUBCOMMITTE REPORTS

SECURITY TEAM

·  Rhiannon Chisholm leading imitative to improve security at MPS

·  Perimeter Security Fencing

-  Proposal floated for Perimeter Security Fencing at MPS, to prevent children leaving school grounds and for intruders entering. At other local schools such as Neutral Bay, Cammeray, Beauty Point, Sacred Heart and Blessed Sacrament security fencing already in place

-  P&C and parents will need to lobby the DEC and local ministers to seek funding

-  Request for parents to please advise MPS of incidents of which they’re aware, in particular trespassers out of hours

-  If DEC won’t fund then P&C will need to consider funding

·  Additional security initiatives

-  Suggestions included additional teachers/teacher aides on duty in the playground before and after school and at break time. This would need to be P&C funded

-  Filling in large gap in the Belmont Road playground fencing

-  Lockable sliding fly-screen on ground floor KT classroom
