The National Guard Association of Texas was founded in 1959 on the principle that it is important to have an organization speak out for the Texas National Guard and its members. Today, NGAT is a non-profit veterans organization of over 35,000 Texas National Guard members and retirees organized for the following purposes:
· To promote and support adequate national security
· To foster and improve the National Guard of Texas and the National Guard of the United States as a component of the Armed Forces of the United States
· To preserve and perpetuate the history and tradition of the National Guard of Texas
NGAT has been instrumental in obtaining:
· Tiered TriCare
· Tuition Assistance Program
· Increased disability benefits for soldiers on active state duty
· Increased state military duty pay
· SGLI coverage for dependents
· Compensation for Guard members or survivors of member killed or disabled while performing state military duty
· Gaining needed equipment for Army and National Guard
· Improvement of billets and facilities at North Fort Hood
NGAT is the voice of the Texas Military Forces both in Washington and in Austin. We have been instrumental in obtaining:
· Force Structure
· Equipment Modernization
· Increased TriCare benefits for all Guardsmen
We continue to lobby for:
· Retirement at age 55
· Education benefits
· Increased personnel pay benefits
.
Work with NGAT at the grassroots level to educate our elected leaders about important issues facing the National Guard by joining the NGAT E-Mail/Fax Brigade.
Current NGAT membership application can be downloaded from the NGAT website at www.ngat.org
