Omega Phi Alpha – Position Description
Title: National Standards Board Member
General Purpose of Position:
National Standards Board (NSB) members shall ensure that the standards of Omega Phi Alpha are being upheld by all members, in the same fashion that Chapter Standards Boards do. NSB members shall be responsible for making decisions on the national level regarding disassociations and statuses of members, as well as making recommendations for chapter statuses to the National Executive Board.

Works with: National Executive Board, Chapter Standards Boards, active and alumnae members
Term of Service: 1 year from July to June. May be reappointed subject to yearly evaluation and other considerations.
Time Commitment: 2-4 hours per week
National Standards Board Membership: The National Standards Board will consist of five voting members and one chair:
· VP Membership (chair)
· One sister who serves as a Traveling Leadership Consultant
· One sister who serves on the National Executive Board
· Two sisters who hold active status
· One sister who holds alumna status
Required Qualifications:
· The Traveling Leadership Consultant member must currently be serving as a Traveling Leadership Consultant
· The National Executive Board member must currently be serving on the National Executive Board and may not be serving as the National President or VP Membership
· Any alumna member of Omega Phi Alpha in good standing may serve as the alumna member with the exception of current Traveling Leadership Consultants or current National Executive Board members
· Any active member of Omega Phi Alpha in good standing may serve as one of the two active members with the exception of current National Executive Board members
Preferred Knowledge/Abilities/Experiences:
· Served on Chapter Standards Board at the local level
· Served as an officer or chairperson at the local level
· Familiar with Omega Phi Alpha’s National Constitution, Bylaws, procedures and membership statuses
· Self-motivating; prompt responses to requests from sorority members.
· Ability to be unbiased
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Vote on and discuss the following items:
o Alumna status requests for reasons that do not warrant automatic alumna status
o Disassociation appeals for all members
o Requests to disassociate alumnae members
o First semester Leave of Absence requests
o Leave of Absence requests for longer than two school terms
o Leave of Absence requests after a sister has already taken two Leave of Absence terms
· Make recommendations to the National Executive Board regarding the following items:
o Placing a chapter on conditional status
o Placing a chapter on suspended status
· Gather information from local chapters and Chapter Standards Boards regarding the items above
· Notify local chapters of any decisions made by the board that affect their chapter
· One member of the National Standards Board shall be required to take minutes of all meetings and motions; these minutes shall be submitted to the National Executive Board once a semester for review and approval.
