September 24/25, 2016 19thSunday after Pentecost

Amos 6:1“Woe to those who are at ease in Zion. . . .” The Book of Amos is a warning to God's people who have been given great material wealth. As Jesus Himself mentions, material blessings can turn into temptations – chiefly the temptation to think of ourselves as self-sufficient and independent. What does Amos suggest as a way to combat this temptation? First off: faith in the Lord and dependence upon Him! And if our faith is right we will want to follow the rest of Amos's instructions: to bless the poor with our alms and to make sure the Lord's House is properly cared for. In other words: to align our actions with God's priorities and put others ahead of ourselves.

September 2425, 2016

WE WELCOME ALL WHO WORSHIP AT ST. PAUL’S.We pray that God will bless your worship with us. Please register your attendance on the pad at the end of the pew after the offering. As a member of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod (LC-MS), St. Paul’s practices close communion. We believe that receiving the Lord’s Supper together shows a common confession of faith in all areas of doctrine (not just in Communion).

If you are a member of a LC-MS congregation in good standing, you are invited to receive communion. If you are not a member of a LC-MS congregation, please talk with the pastor or an elder prior to the service. The elders are the gentlemen that are wearing the “ELDER” badges.

We offer both the common cup and individual up to those who commune. The center individual cups are white grape juicefor those who are not able to have wine.Children are welcome to come forward with their family to receive a blessing. We celebrate the Lord’s Supper in every Saturday service, in the Sunday 8:00 a.m. on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Sunday, and in the Sunday 10:30 a.m. on the 2nd and 4th Sunday.

New or visiting today? Please be sure to sign our Guest Register in the narthex. You’ll findplenty of useful information in this OnDeck (published weekly). You may also go to and find the monthly newsletter and other information about the church, school and daycare.

LUTHERAN WOMEN’S MISSIONARY LEAGUE SUNDAYis next weekend in all services. We will recognize the work of the LWML in our church and the mission work that is done through the gathering of the Mites. We will have the “Joyful Noise” offering during the service. Bring your change and mite boxes and add them to the noise of collection as we use the metal buckets. All money gathered goes to the SID LWML mission mites.

CONGREGATIONAL DINNER AND PRESENTATION:On Sunday, September 25, at noon, the youth that attended the National Lutheran Youth Gathering in New Orleans, LA will be hosting a dinner for all members of the congregation. This is the youth’s opportunity to tell you about what took place at the Gathering, how it impacted their spiritual lives and what is coming up for them. The youth would like to have a general idea of how many to expect at this dinner (so they can plan accordingly). If you would contact Rachael Beckemeyer () or call the church office (6676681) to let the youth know that you are planning to attend, it would be appreciated. You do not have to RSVP to come, but it will help them plan the meal. This is a FREE meal. This is their way of thanking you for your support in sending them to the Gathering. They greatly appreciate all that you did to help them raise the funds to attend this once every 3 years event.
